Well I did it. A Marshall modded by Bray with all his bells and whistles. Can't wait to plug it in and smash out a few chords. The cool thing about this amp is the dual master volumes.

Congrats & rock that thang!!!!! :beerchug:

2 master volumes? Splain to me how that works please. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about Dave's stuff. Enjoy.

Re: Just bought a Bray 1987x(pics)

If you look on the back of the amp you will see 2 master volume pots.
They are PPIMV types and the first one you can set for your rhythm playing as normal and the 2nd you can set higher that you can kick in via a footswitch for leads. Won't be needing my Keeley SD-1 anymore.

Just a thought, couldn't you have run a MXR Micro Amp or some other booster in the loop for lead boost??

Re: Just bought a Bray 1987x(pics)

Yeah you could but it would change your tone. The dual masters don't.
Click on my soundclick for some clips. The super quiet clip shows how well the PPIMV works. You can actually hear the pick attack on the strings coming through the mic.

that just turns into more gain and noise most of the time with a slight volume boost... this dual volume mod will give a nice noise free solo volume boost... dam i want that amp!!!!!

Re: Just bought a Bray 1987x(pics)

That looks like lots of tricks to treat your ears with!!!

Did you add the little labels or did he ship it to you like that?

Re: Just bought a Bray 1987x(pics)

This particular amp with its mods costs just under $2200.00 U.S. from Bray. I picked it up for $1600 used from a guy that bought it just 4 months ago. Its still brand new.
I didn't put those stickers there. Either it came that way or the previous owner put them there.

Re: Just bought a Bray 1987x(pics)

I've always been jonesing for his 1987x mod II amp. Post some clips please and thanks for the pics. It's always nice when a New this or that comes with pics.:smokin:

Re: Just bought a Bray 1987x(pics)

If you need the stickers, you can go to Walmart and pick up a dyno label maker. They are professional looking and the little gizmo is not overly expensive. I'm probably overly concerned about aesthetics.

Re: Just bought a Bray 1987x(pics)

Heck, if I had 45 minutes alone with that amp, I'd be happy to make those labels for ya! What a beauty!

Wow sounds absolutely friggin' awesome. And to think I passed up on a on opportunity to own a Bray Modded 1987x Marshall last year for only $1500 AUD...:smack:

What guitar and speaker cabinet did you use for the clips?

Re: Just bought a Bray 1987x(pics)

The stickers will be coming off. It is Bray thats playing the clips. He always does that when he sells you an amp to give you an idea on how it sounds. He used a 70's 4X12 loaded w/greenbacks.

Re: Just bought a Bray 1987x(pics)

I sure wish I had chops to make clips! I'm envious of mr. bray.

Re: Just bought a Bray 1987x(pics)

Man those clips are killer. It almost sounds like there's a variac in there. Your chops are killer too. You have that ripping hard rock action with some bluesy influence... more than a little EVH in there too :D

Re: Just bought a Bray 1987x(pics)

David Bray is an awesome player, not to mention his mod skills. You can hear the EVH influence:smokin:
