Just Checked out the new Squier 51

For a $149.95 you get a lot of guitar. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a
7.5. It felt very solid ( not as chessy as you would expect for a El Cheapo)
It played nice, 1 master volume (No tone control) the other knob is a
PuP selector. I didn't fall in love w/t it's looks They only had a Blonde
one there(This is where the chessy factor comes in) I think the sunburst
may look the best? It had desent tuners on it and the bridge was solid.
Bottom Line...Put a set of Duncans in it...And you have a Very Gigable
Guitar On a budget. I played it thru a Hot rod Deluxe. I now have HRD G.A.S. :13:

Re: Just Checked out the new Squier 51

It seems everybody who plays the Squier 51 loves them. I will have to get me one. Another great "bang for the buck" electric is Washburn's X10 line. They will blow you away!

Re: Just Checked out the new Squier 51

I was looking at a few different ones last night at a local shop. The cosmetics were surprisingly nice... very high quality for the buck. I didn't get to play plugged in, but the neck was very playable. I noticed it unplugged.

I also trie a Fender blackout Tele. I liked it, too... Anyone else?

Re: Just Checked out the new Squier 51

Its almost as loud as an acoustic unplugged. thats what suprized me, does that mean its good tone wood?

Btw, good hard pick attack and you can really go to town playin the blues on it.
soon to put a Phatcat bridge and a duckbucker neck in mine, drop the coil split for a good volume pot, and have a better pickguard made.

Btw, how is the neck pickup mounted? i dont see it mounting to the pickguard, and it feels solid.

Re: Just Checked out the new Squier 51

The neck pickup mounts like a vintage Tele...it screws down into the body and has rubber between the pickup and the body.

I love the 51, I would like to see a Fender version of it, but I would also love to see one with a middle pickup and a whammy bar, I could do without the middle pickup if I could get a whammy bar. I played one once that a buddy of mine re worked, it turned out quite nice I think. He put a Fender fat 50's in the neck, and a JB in the bridge, put a push/pull on the volume and replace the other know with a pickup switch...it was a great guitar for the little amount of money it cost.
