Just saw this: Gibson cutting production/raising prices/modifying stuff

Re: Just saw this: Gibson cutting production/raising prices/modifying stuff

a 30% hike in Standard pricing and all Satins getting the axe. Rough. I wonder if Epiphone will be holding down the Mid-Level stuff now too?

Re: Just saw this: Gibson cutting production/raising prices/modifying stuff

They've glutted the market to date. I think it's a ploy to flush all the current stock.

I like this.

They overpriced ridiculously, they over produced. More and more people moved to the low end models….

So now, hike the premiums, sale the basics, and threaten rarity to justify current even more stupid prices. This is what inflation looks like in a Nation.

Take a look at the price of an LP against the COL index against gold adjusted wages.

This is the beginning of the bell tolling for Gibson. Remember I said it first kids. You'll be able to say one day "I remember when Gibson made Les Pauls…."

Well, unless I go used (more likely), there's no way I'll be purchasing a new Gibson. They just priced me out of that market by dropping sub $1000 instruments. A 30% price increase? In this economy? Right. They better start making Epiphone's with real mahogany instead of Philippine Mahogany (though there might be one or 2 LP's that are made with real mahogany) to fill the gap.

The Epi LP Tribute looks a lot more attractive suddenly.

The price hike must be manna to PRS' ears - absolutely nothing about the described changes justifies a 29% price rise.

Re: Just saw this: Gibson cutting production/raising prices/modifying stuff

I wonder how much would it take for me to buy Gibson or buy enough stock to be majority share holder?

Re: Just saw this: Gibson cutting production/raising prices/modifying stuff

Holy A$$ rape batman!! I have old MF mags and stuff and it slays me how much their prices have climbed over the years. I try NOT to bash, but this is crazy for them to jump that much again in just one year. The only option will be to buy used, but I have a feeling used prices will climb as well

Re: Just saw this: Gibson cutting production/raising prices/modifying stuff

My Tokai's are looking more and more of a bargain every day...

Re: Just saw this: Gibson cutting production/raising prices/modifying stuff

I never liked the concept of guitars as expensive as Gibsons not being finished properly.

The LP standard has always been overpriced for its class (weight relieved, nashville bridge etc) and it worked so far.

Some of the claims made I outright don't believe. Everything with automatic tuners? Nah.

Re: Just saw this: Gibson cutting production/raising prices/modifying stuff

Glad I got my R8 when I did! $1694 out the door, Memorial Day Sale 2006!

The tributes better made??

Yeah, Paul is on the floor screaming, start making those single cuts faster!!!!!!

Re: Just saw this: Gibson cutting production/raising prices/modifying stuff

for the price of a 2015 standard I'd rather buy a nice carvin.

Re: Just saw this: Gibson cutting production/raising prices/modifying stuff

Oh Henry, you crack me up.

Re: Just saw this: Gibson cutting production/raising prices/modifying stuff

Yeah, I saw that. All models except the LP Supreme, Derek Trucks SG, and one other will have their electronic tuning system, their zero fret adjustable nut, and a few other features.

I'm glad I have no interest in buying Gibson.

Re: Just saw this: Gibson cutting production/raising prices/modifying stuff

Thank god I make my own now.

Re: Just saw this: Gibson cutting production/raising prices/modifying stuff

We'll see, if this is all true, hownit translates to the market. I have 3 nice gibsons that I love to death but IF this is all true I'm not sure another one will ever go through my hands as even the used market could be affected. Good thing I'm set.

Re: Just saw this: Gibson cutting production/raising prices/modifying stuff

Itd be nice if they bridged the gap like ESP did by bringing more Elitist Epiphone models over a'la LTD pro (or whatever the mijs are called)
