I love EVERYTHING about this pickup. :bigthumb:

Fat enough without getting mushy, a nice singing lead voice, SO tight, chunky and crunchy as hell! What a change from the P.O.S Ibanez pickup it used to be there. (500k tone pot BTW)

It loves lower tunings, even if I don't use them that much... did a D tuning then slammed a couple of power chords to test it. BAM!

Can't wait to test this sucker on a band setting! :arms:

Hey! Wow, that sounds fantastic! I've just ordered the JB Jazz set for my Epiphone G310...I can't wait! I've read so many good things about the JB..and i already own a pair of 59's in my other Epiphone...I expect this is going to top it .

JBs are quite a unique thing. They don't sound too compressed and are very toneful, to put it somehow. They're not plain chugga-chugga machines like other pickups. They actually let the guitar sing. Pair them with a nice axe and you'll be in tone heaven!

Good luck with your guitar, man. You're gonna love the JB-Jazz combo, I assure you. :bigthumb:

Nope, basswood. However, my Floyd Rose is blocked and I use a mildly high action to keep a high body resonance. So it sounds very balanced. :nervous:

I may have to try a JB...but, I was a bit put-off by the Schecter I tried that had the JB/Jazz combo.

Strange, but it sounded flubby and loose on low-end. Very muddy and un-defined. Ugh...I LIKE "open", but hate a lack of definition.
I am not kidding--the $200 Squier strat sounded better.
I wonder if there wasn't something wrong with the guitar/setup?

I may have to try one anyway...and the Custom...and the VHPAF...and the Breed neck in bridge, and the Steve's Special...and the Drop-Sonic...
I have a basswood Ibanez RG470 with an OFR.

So many pickups, so little time...and money.

The JB sure seems to like some guitars more than others. My mahogany Guild sounded flubby, but my Strat sounds great.

I agree with you, I got one jazz combo in my strat (JB sh-4+ jazz sh-2) and it sound great (alder)

but in my Ibanez (s470dxqm) it sound like a "wedding crasher without a girl"
it sound more agressive with the alnico V (with allen screw in one side)

What's the Ibanez made out of?
(oh I see, basswood) What volume pot are you using in the Strat? I switched mine to a 250K, it makes a difference, for sure.

All I can say about the JB is, I have heard guys on this forum say it's the worst pickup you can put in a mahogany guitar, blah, blah, blah. I'm here to tell you that is not necessarily true, and this pickup is all about personal preference. I just put one in my Les Paul and it sounds better than anything else I have tried. The JB seems to get some bad raps on this forum but it sure kicks butt in my Les Paul. Very cutting, tight and big tone. I have the jazz in the neck which I would rate a 10 for clean tones and maybe a 7.5 for overdriven tones. The jazz would not be my first choice for blues, but the really sweet clean tones kind of makes up for it. Sounds suprisingly good split also. The JB split sounds like a Tele to me. This is definately a pickup set to try in any guitar. You might like it!

It all depends on the player and the guitar. I had one that sounded like piss in a rusty bucket in a kramer focus 1000. Then I tried it in my EBMM, and it sounded great.

Same kinda thing happens with other pickups...I had a screamin demon that sounded like hell in my schecter, but in the kramer it was godly.

I sure hope so...

Also, I was worried since the JB I have here isn't tremspaced. However, after directly comparing the bridge pick-up in the guitar (which is stock by the way), I found out they have the exact same spacing... I will admit, however, that the outside strings could be a little more centered over the pole-pieces...

This is the first time I have ever heard the JB called 'flubby' (I assume that means spongy) in a Mahogany guitar.
