Just started my next build - Fender guitar porn

Re: Just started my next build - Fender guitar porn

nice man.

what wiring scheme are you going with?

Also... you're going with covered buckers? Will the covers fit in those pickguard routes?

Just noticed that is for open coils. Son of a b... I am going to have to open them up a bit to fit or just return it. For wiring I am going B - B split - B/N - N split - N on a super switch. The knobs are going to be volume, volume with a master tone with the neck volume having a push pull phase switch.

I returned it. I really wanted a vintage 8 hole so I got exactly what I wanted on Warmouth. Alcohol and Ebay will get you everytime.

The pickups should be on the way. I went with a Lindy Fralin High Output Humbucker (A4, 12K) in the bridge and a Lindy Fralin Pure PAF (A2, 7.5k-7.8k) in the neck with his Partial Tap Kit.

Re: Just started my next build - Fender guitar porn

I originally was going to put a set of those high outputs in my Futura build. You don't have any issues with the 4k + difference in wire on those ? Just curious I like to keep them fairly closely matched .5k to 2k or so?

I have not run into a problem with larger gaps, I actually like it. One of my favorite setups is my Dimebucker (16.25)/Jazz (7K) setup. I do use a volume pedal but I don't know how much that plays into it. I do know in the middle position that setup sounds fantastic. When I am switching pickups I am looking for a whole new tone, I hate guitars with similar sounding pickups. In my view it may as well be a single pickup guitar. So 4K+ doesn't even make me bat an eyelash.

Re: Just started my next build - Fender guitar porn

Yeah I am with you there but of course you know that the number of winds doesn't determine what the end sound becomes. I just like them closer for output reasons , I like to keep my pickups around 3/16 to 1/8 away from the strings if the output is significantly different will result in many height/ pole adjustments to get a volume match. Remember I am a hack both in playing and guitar work.

So are you gonna put a black jack plate?
Or go chrome hardware

Just out of curiosity, why did you choose D'Addario Auto-Trim tuning machines? I just discovered those this year.

Doesn't D'addario own planet waves
Cause when I was at their site last week
The drop down list included a link to planet waves

I have an Epi Les Paul custom that I've equipped with a Dimebucker and a Pearly Gates in the neck. I love the contrast and the sound they make together is heavenly. The Dimebucker is a fantastically designed, very versatile pickup and I use it for everything from country to blues to metal

I am going chrome all around on this. I am looking for a classic vibe with a twist. That twist being the bridge, neck and pickups.

People so under estimate the Dimebucker. It is a great classic rock pickup. Especially the early Stones and Who stuff.

It's quickly become my favorite bridge pickup!

Re: Just started my next build - Fender guitar porn

I did this review on the Dimebucker a while back. The best comment I got was from a snippy kid that said the review was a fail because I mentioned Paul McCartney’s and distortion in the same review. I guess he thought Motley Crue wrote Helter Skelter. Freakin kids.

It's not so much the equipment, but what you do with it! As someone's sig says, "some of the best music in history was made with equipment worse than you own"

Re: Just started my next build - Fender guitar porn

A tale of two Luthiers – My main guy is out of town and then cannot take me for 3 months to do the LSR. I called one guy that came recommended that I have never heard of. He droned on about how the LSR would not work with the lefty neck because of the string break on the low E. When I asked why the bone would work and not the LRS he said if we run into problems we can use a string tree. He admittedly told me he was not a fan of the LSR nuts.

If I ran into a problem with the bone and was forced to use a string tree…why couldn’t I use a string tree with the LSR if I had the same problem? If I am bringing you my guitar I want it setup for me not for you. And if it is not going to be a LSR I would just simply flip the existing plastic nut. I never mentioned I wanted a bone nut.

So I called Mooridian Guitars – The answer I got. Yep we have done plenty of them. When I asked him about the string break. He said with the staggered tuners I should be fine. Guess who got the business.

Re: Just started my next build - Fender guitar porn

My pickups showed up today. A Lindy Fralin High Output Humbucker for the bridge and a Pure PAF for the neck. Still waiting on the bridge and pickguard, hopefully Saturday.

Finally popped on the tuners. They look sharp. I love the contrast of the chrome keys with the black posts.

I see you got your new pickguard too. :headbang:

Yep that just showed up. I could use that to plot out the route. Hell I could put a swimming pool in there if I wanted. I think the bridge should be here today so I will wait and make sure everything is lined up nice and tight before I start routing. Next I need to start working on the wiring diagram. There are so many different components I can't grab a standard one off any site I am going to have to draw this baby up myself. .

Re: Just started my next build - Fender guitar porn

Got the bridge. Gonna start routing tonight then on to the electronics.
