Sorry - but facts are facts!
Well, you can learn something new everyday!
This post is a direct result of a challenge to the claim and putting my money on the line to hear the real differences.
So I purchased a KGC brass block and tried it on several different bridge set-up (Using the US sized bridges not metric with no changes in the bridge pieces except for the block) to hear the tone and sustain differences. All new Fender Bullet 150 10-46 strings were used in this test. Played with several amp setups - clean, slight bluesy driven, and with distortion / overdrive.
Here are the results…
1) Original Fender vintage bridge - Improved the mellowness of the tone by reducing the ice pick effect, while given an increment in sustain. SO it works with this bridge set-up, especially when the amp is overdriven.
2) Callaham bridge - Slight mellowness by decreasing the top end, no noticeable increase in sustain. SO could say it works here with this bridge set-up, as with the Vintage bridge works well with the amp overdriven - Is it worth the cost with this bridge ???
3) Blade-Runner - Increased mid-range with decrease in top end, no detectable increase in sustain. Works best in the clean amp setup. POSSIBLY could say it work fair in this application.
4) Super Vee - Decreased top end, no detectable increase in sustain. Works best with the amp in the Clean setup. POSSIBLY could say it works here.
BEST Improvement is changing from a stock Fender bridge / block set-up.
Others - let you decide on what you like.
