Les Paul neck pickup for "fluid" tone?

Re: Les Paul neck pickup for "fluid" tone?

Kinda wonder also if the Titan is sorta DiMarzio's take on the Full Shred.

Brighter than you'd think they would be. But that brightness allows them to cut through a dense mix.

Might actually be helpful in the neck spot of a Les Paul, considering how that position is prone to get muddy real quick with the wrong pickup.

It's awesome. I have it in my LP but I put fillister screws in the bridge side coil for a bit more lows/mids.

The more I read reviews, the more I'm really feeling like the Full Shred might be one of the better candidates. I think the Humbucker From Hell just might be a little TOO bright. The FS could be in just the right ballpark.

It's a thing of beauty.

I knew someone had said that earlier in the thread but I couldn't remember who.

My LP has a Full Shred in the neck but I replaced the bridge side coil's hex poles with fillister screws to slightly beef it up. It's perfect now.

Lol... Sounds like a good idea!

Yeah, it kicks ass now. It was a little thin for my tastes so I tried the fillisters in the one coil and blammo, perfect.

By the way, gregory, I asked DiMarzio if John Petrucci had ever used a Humbucker From Hell, and they said, in fact, that he did for a short while, combined with a Steve's Special. ;)

He first used the Tone Zone and Humbucker from Hell. Then switched to Steve's Special and Air Norton.

Nice. I wonder how much more thickness it would add putting them in the neck side coil. Or putting 3 in the neck side on the high strings and 3 in the bridge side on the low strings. Kinda like a Fender Wide Range. Hmmm.... *gears turning*

You'd have to try it out. It's easy to do. I tried it one way and it was doing what I wanted so I never changed it up.

Ah, that's what it was. So that was probably his sound on When Dream and Day Unite? Seems like he hadn't really found his "trademark" sound until Images and Words.

Sweet. I usually have to try every possible way so I can continue being indecisive. Lol! I'm sure nobody has picked up on my indecisiveness yet. ;) It's a chronic condition. LOL

Yeah. He started using Ibanez on When Dream and Day Unite but got his first Picasso on Images & Words. I remember one of his first Ibanez guitars had a leopard print on it. I got to play it too. It was really nice.

Super cool. Wow.

Ok, so if I'm staying with all Duncans in my Les Paul (which just appeals more to my OCD than anything, lol), I think Full Shred + Custom 8 sounds like a killer combo. At least that's how I imagine it. Hehe

Sounds good. I have Alternative 8 / Full Shred in mine. The Alt 8 is HUGE. We jammed at the studio on Sunday and I played through some kind of solid state Randall and it sounded killer. Like Godzilla.

Godzilla. Hahaha... That's awesome. I think the Alt 8 is one of the only pickups that stand a chance of dethroning my Custom 8. Lol. I've bonded with the C8 very well for years now.
