Hard to say! I'd love to know the story behind it. I found the picture online one day......some say photoshop, but I've seen people do things this stupid before! :scratchch

Re: Lets see all the heavily modded guitars

That's a thing of beauty right there.

Thank you sir!

I need to take her outside and get some good pics that rally show the colour...the burgundy is still very strong on this one but she is starting to show through some neat copper hues here and there.

I got this USA Warlock back in '97. From the serial number, I place it as being made between '87 and '89. It came stock with Grover 18:1 mid-size rotomatics, an Ibanez Edge bridge, and Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro humbuckers. It was originally Dayglo (almost pearl pink in full light, neon orange under a blacklight).

During the summer of '98, I stripped it down, did a cheapy flat black paint job, installed a WD tremolo stabilizer, moved the strap buttons and replaced them with Schaller strap locks. I removed the tone pot and second volume, bringing the controls down to a single volume and toggle. I eventually added the Incubus sticker to cover the two empty volume pot holes around 2001. I added the PacSun, Explicit Language, and small Fear Factory sticker on the upper horn around 2001-2002.

In 2008, I did the locking stud mod on the trem posts, removing any play from the trem bridge. I decided to go with a hotter Duncan Distortion TB-6 at the bridge and add a WD open-face humbucker cover onto the Alnico II Pro at the neck. Both humbuckers are mounted with heatshrink replacing the original humbucker springs. The control cavity was copper shielded and rewired (thanks to Jeff Kempf at Guitar Infirmary). The volume pot was swapped with a 551k pot to allow some more high end definition. The volume knob was replaced with a deep knurled and grooved knob with black dress washers underneath.

The original zinc sustain block was replaced with a brass big block and spring retaining bar. The springs are kept silenced with heatshrink and a piece of foam beneath them. Because of the way I use the trem stabilizer, I use oxidized zinc screws to allow the claw to move smoothly across the screw surface.

My Ibanez RG-550:

Bought stock for £100, fitted various pickups including DD, FS & Bill Lawrence L500XL until i got a bargain set of 18v Livewire Classics - £50
Upgraded the scratch plate to the mirror one - £30
Fitted a Guitar Fuel Nitro Booster - £15
It's now one of my favourite guitars.

I mess with all my guitars to some degree, the one i have done the most too the only original parts are the neck, body & machine heads.

Here is a pick of my custom made Grubisa Flying V with all brazilian mahogany body and neck with ebony frett board. This particular pic is when I placed an Invader in it. I now have the sh6 back in it, and await my new duncan Tyrannotitan pickup

I am surprised there is that much red left. That guitar must not have spent a lot of time out in the light, which is surprising, considering the shape it was in when you got it. I have a '68 330 in the same color, and you can barely tell that it was ever red. A few spots on the back still have a little red, as does the area under the pick guard. At first glance, the guitar looks like it was meant to be a nice bronze color.

I am the 3rd owner and my understanding is that she was gigged rather heavily from 1967 until the mid 90's...

I wish I knew why the colour was so vibrant but I'll never know.

Even Brian Monty (the man that made the new neck for it) said it should be MUCH more faded then it is but some turned and some didn't...

I have sen pics of an ES-355 that's copper on top and still bright burgundy on the back, sides and neck...they think it might have sat in a window for years...looks rather strange!

Re: Lets see all the heavily modded guitars

Probably this one. My Dreadnaughtcaster.

Re: Lets see all the heavily modded guitars

This one's for real though. (Only guitar I've owned longer than this one is my '63 Strat which I've had since about 1975.) This one's an 80's MIJ Fender Squier and it's one of the best sounding and playing Strats I've ever owned. It came to me with a Dimarzio Super Distortion bridge pickup and the rout for it was chiseled into the wood under the pickguard by a previous owner. Since then it's gone through a number of transmutations. It's had a JB, old Carvins, Custom 5...all kinds of single coils from Duncan, Fralin and Carvin. I can't even remember all of the pickups I've had in this great guitar.

I settled on two Antiquity Surfers and a MJ wound Duncan Custom Shop alnico 2 Hot For Tele Tapped bridge pickup. I pull up on the tone control to tap the bridge pickup.

Best bridge humbucker I ever had in this guitar was a nickel covered Pearly Gates Trembucker, BTW.

Re: Lets see all the heavily modded guitars

COOL!

I put a Tele pickup in a Strat once...I saw a picture of Lowell George and he had done it so I gave it a shot. It was cool but that Strat overall just didn't jive with me but I've thought several times about doing it again!
