Can't speak for their longevity but, these Graphtech Tusq picks are great. Nice attack and feel in your hand.

I've been told that these wear super quickly. The tone is great, but there's no longevity to them.

Not the easiest getting the photo - and pardon the crappy camera pic. But this is about how they look after a few days. It starts to get noticeable after about 30 minutes of playing, then gets a little worse for the next couple of days, then kind of levels off in terms of how noticeable the difference is day-to-day.

Whoa, that is quite a a wear pattern! I need to show this to my dad–he always got onto me for picking too aggressively but hey, I've never worn a pick out! lol

I have been using these exact ones for years....I have lost more than i have broke or worn out....very durable picks IMO

That is some aggressive picking. I've worn a pick off on the edge a little but not that much and certainly not in a half hour. Thanks for the photo.

What are you playing, Death Metal or something? I know you're not playing Johnny Cash with a pick wear like that lol.

Haha actually I play cliché blues rock a la SRV, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Allman brothers, etc. Dabbled in metallica but that's about as metal as it gets lol.

I actually do play a lot of Johnny cash funny enough. Strumming seems to wear away picks faster than single note stuff too.

Haha actually I play cliché blues rock a la SRV, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Allman brothers, etc. Dabbled in metallica but that's about as metal as it gets lol.

I actually do play a lot of Johnny cash funny enough. Strumming seems to wear away picks faster than single note stuff too.

I strum a good bit during our church services with the style picks that is posted, and i have never had any trouble with them wearing down like the one you posted.....you should give them a try and see how they work for you....

Different reviews on Sweetwater and Musicians Friend. I read one where someone said that their TUSQ pick was worn down in about an hour. I've also heard that they are very brittle. I've never had any and I'd like to get a hold of some because I've been interested in them for a while now.

The people giving the reviews must strum and pick 1,000,000 times harder than I do because I've had mine for several months and no signs of wear yet.

That's what i use too! The Paul Gilbert orange one's! The thwap on the strings feels great. A bit harder to shred with them but worth it IMO. They hardly wear at all. I could play the same one for years if i didn't lose it!

What gauge strings do you use? That could have something to do with it.

Also note that .11-.48 is the lightest gauge I can play without breaking strings, so that could be a factor too.

I can film a video of me playing next week some time if that helps - I'm definitely not a finesse player but I'm not being purposefully daft either.

It depends on which guitar im using.....My Ibby has .9s on it and my LP and my V have .10s on them....

I usually play on 9s and 10s...11's or higher may have something to do with the expedient wear and tear but I would not think that much! Are you in standard 440 tuning? Is that worn side on the up or down stroke?

Possible downstroke where the pick is touching the wound strings I'm guessing from the look of it.

I don't know what it is, but a purple Tortex doesn't last me a few days tops before it starts to wear out.

Wear is on both sides - harder to see in first picture but both are worn like that. I'll get a better picture of the other side when I get in tonight.

I play in a440 fwiw. Guitar is 25.5" scale (telecaster).

I can confirm, higher gauge strings wear out picks faster. I think because they have higher tension so the pick has to work harder to get through the string which creates more friction.

It's gotta be the 11 gauge strings. Since I've switched to 11s from 9s my picks wear down more quickly also.
