Hello, I'm new to the forum, and after market PU concepts, and wondered if I could get some advice. I have four, yes four Les Pauls. Obviously I have a thing for them. I play blues and like the sounds of tube amps near distortion. I want to make each of my LPs, which mostly carry classic PUs, to sound different. Currently, I am looking for a combination for a '90s mahogany Classic. The auto advice thingie said classic '59s, a sound which I already have coming out of my ears. Any other constructive comments?

To start with, I would get a set of pickups with alnico 2 magnets-much sweeter then the ceramics in the LP Classic. Every Alnico 2 SD Pickup I've ever heard had sounded sweet, warm and had nice sustain. Try Alnico 2 Pros (Slash's favorite), Pearly Gates, Seth Lovers or antiquities.
If I had 4 LPs, here are my pup choices:
1) Jazz/JB combo (Alnico 5 magnets-tried and true combo)
2) Antiquites set (or Seth lovers sound very close-both awesome pups)
3) 59 set (or possibly 59 neck with hotter bridge-JB)
4) Pearly Gates set

Thanks so much to you both; I have already gleaned much new info. Hacker : the only after market set I have is either a '57 or '59 set, which also comes with a LP Classic that I have, as well as the Custom Shop all mahogany LP that I posted here incorrectly as a Classic. Therefore, I have three of my LPs set up with '59s, or possibly one with '57s, and the fourth with a stock '76 Custom set. I like the idea of a Pearly Gates set, and also a Seth Lover set. I like jazz, but am still uncertain about the Jazz/JB combo, however popular. dd12393 : I am mostly interested in bluesy sounds, and as I am clearly not concerned about throwing money at getting guitar sounds - since I own four LPs - I don't mind a little trial and error. I am not interested in super metal sounds, but I like to have an LP through a tube amp with attitude sound. I like to get some serious response to good attack. Clean round sounds are nice too. All other input with a positive message is welcomed. Thanks to all.

I would go with the Alnico II pro neck and bridge or, The Custom Custom bridge and the alnico II pro neck. Very warm and smooth pickups.

I would go with a Pearly Gates set, an Alnico Pro 2 set, a a JB/Jazz set or what I fell in love with - a Pearly Gates/Alnico 2 Pro set (and this one with push/pull volume pots to get single coil, coil select options) and maybe a Phat Cat set.
Nice problem to have.

I've played the '59 set and the Seth Lover set in my LP (a '96 Standard) and can highly recommend both.
The '59s are brighter, with a tighter bass, and more aggressive sounding. The Seths, though still bright, have a smoother top end, more mids and a looser bass.
Both sets are excellent for blues and classic rock applications.
Currently I'm settled on the Seths, but if I had another LP I wouldn't hesitate to put '59s in it.

You know, a full Jazz set (low power, good clarity) or a PG/Jazz (aggressive leads and a clear neck tone) might be nice too.
