Beautiful guitars guys!

LPs sure do rock...

Re: Man i love my les paul

I'm happy to say I can finally be a part of the Les Paul club, and I think mine might've replaced my Strat as my main guitar...for now, anyway, I'm not sure if its still the honeymoon period or not, but I haven't touched the strat in days.

Hey d1dsj, trade you my Sapphire for your Custom!

Seriously though, I love all of yours and your DC Pro is jaw dropping. Some day I'd love to get a proper Gem Series (with the P90s). I don't know what bastard decided to route mine, but I got it so cheap that I really don't care. :D

Nice stuff though, those are 3 gorgeous guitars.

Hey bud, thanks... but I doubt the Custom would ever be sold as it was my 40th present from my better half! It was brand new just 2 years ago and now looks 20 years old.. she doesn't understand that it now has ...MOJO!!!! ha ha ha... I think 90% of the guitars on here are great... I'd love 'em all. I missed one of those Saphire gems a few years ago and always keep my eyes open for them... but it has to be that colour!! Anyway, all the best.

Re: Man i love my les paul

lol No way I'm ever selling mine either, cause it was my first Gibson! Can't ever get rid of that. :)

Not touching a Strat in days is a good start!

I never really got into the Strat sound all that much myself. I'd rather play a Tele, or a Les Paul. Or a humbucker Tele. Strats look cool though, and in the right hands they sound really good.

This thread is making me really miss my 78 standard, after the second headstock break, I had to get rid of her.

I think my favorite Les Paul is even plainer than that! It's a '98 Les Paul Junior Special with it's original pickups. But I have a set of unpotted Duncan '59s coming this week, because I wanted to try the unpotted version, and they'll probably end up in this guitar.

Got this one used. I think it's from before they started with that "Faded" thing.

Bursts, gold tops, plain tops, plain colours, no finish's, Buckers, P90's, binding, double bound, no binding, block inlays, trapeziod inlays, dots.... well, all these things and more make up OUR guitars... and I think they're all ace!! I don't know where I read it... and a couple of luthiers have agreed, did you know that Flame tops and quilt tops aren't supposed to sound as good/ consistant/ resonant as plain tops? Apparently the reason is because flame, quilt figuring is faults within the wood and in the 50's Gibson and other manufacturers used to paint the flame tops to hide the faults! And the amount of figuring will have, supposedly, a negative effect on tone! So all the bro's who think "but mine's only a plain L.P", food for thought! I love 'em all!

P.s Dave Meniketti of Y&T had a guitar built recently and he chose a plain top for that very reason....mmmmm.... wish I could play like him!!

I've owned just about everything over the past 23 years. But nicest were my "twins". They were PRS Custom 24's with bird inlays and "10" flame tops. I don't think there are any "nicer" guitars than PRS.

But for tone, vibe, and mojo... it's hard to beat the Les Paul. It's been years since I've had one. And I find myself jonzing for one in a bad way. And this thread doesn't help ONE bit. I see maybe a gold top in my future. But that flame-top red one in the pics above certainly has my attention as well...

Re: Man i love my les paul

I've got an 03 Standard I'm pretty pleased with. Would also like a black Custom again. Preferably 3 pickups...

Some would say that Peter Green's Les Paul sounded pretty good. I guess it was kind of flawed though.

No wonder he sold it so cheap!

I think you could say that the figured maple effects resonance and sustain, but I'm not sure how negative the effect is.

I havent heard that, on lower end guitars, plain tops do have a tonal advantage as the figured maple is just a very thin sheet glued onto a plain maple cap, but the higher end guitars usally have a nice solid piece of figured wood. The story I've read about the initial goldtops was to to hide the fact that it had a maple cap, to keep other guitar makers in the dark as to how the LP got its sound.

LOl, just sharing what I've heard bro! Am I selling my '96 figured top L.P? NOPE.... but I gotta say my B.B is my favorite, though it's all mahogany. I personally like flame tops... but I do believe what I've heard. Guess I'd better get a plain top '59 R.I now just to test the theory!!!

Re: Man i love my les paul

I would show some Les Paul pics, but hell...everyone's seen them.

I've also heard that flamed and birdseye maple in Fender type necks makes them less stabile. There's usually some truth behind most myths, but my Hamer sounds pretty good, fancy top & all.

Not everybody. I just signed up.
