Marshall cab score! And it gets better!

Gearjoneser

Gear Ho
I ran across a Craigslist ad for a 1960AHW, the cab for the handwired plexi reissue. All it takes is seeing pics of Hendrix to make a person want this thing! They were $1200, and came with G12H30 Heritage speakers.

The guy was parting it out, and sold the nice speakers it came with. But I grabbed this minty but empty cab for $275. Such a beautiful cab, which I plan on keeping. For now, I'll transfer some variety of Celestions I have in my many other cabs, then take my time finding Greenbacks and H30's to criss cross, if I feel like it.

But this deal came with a nice bonus! I walked into guys my age, who play the same kind of music, and it turned into an audition. The seller was a blues rock bassist with a room full of cool vintage gear...a rehearsal guest house! I came in like the guy they were looking for!....basically a Marc Ford for their Black Crowes! So, after talking and listening to each other's music for an hour, I grabbed this killer cab, and told them I'd be back.

Re: Marshall cab score! And it gets better!

Yeah, it turned out better than I'd anticipated. The cab is awesome looking. I look behind me, and there's a mint version of the one that's in front of me....a picture of Hendrix jamming his headstock through it!

How could he do such a thing???? LOL That cab is not necessarily stoned, but beautiful!

It'll look even better with my metal front Bogner XTC head on top of it.

My biggest concern is my lack of space. I now have 2 Jubilee cabs, a Bogner slant, Bogner large 212, and now this 1960AHW basketweave.
I really shouldn't have, but for the price of a good pedal, I had to.

Re: Marshall cab score! And it gets better!

that's like the opposite of the time this dude answered my Craig'slist band start ad

he kept saying he wanted us to be called OUT ON BAIL cuz he was out on bail for all these meth charges

and kept telling me the practice space was at his house and that i could just leave all of my stuff over there if i wanted to

yeah i didn't pursue that project

hope yours turns out correctly :smokin:

Re: Marshall cab score! And it gets better!

I have two Mint G12H-30's Annv.'s I have zero use for . Any trades..I'll send mine first.
Thats a heck of a great score for the price. You nearly walked away with it!

Re: Marshall cab score! And it gets better!

^ P.S.....don't mix greenbacks with G12H-30's; thats not a great combo. The Greenbacks nreak upo way before the G12h's and it just really doesnt work that well IMO. Get a set of V30's and criss-cross them with G12h's, or run straight G12h-s, but might get a tad dark.

I'll take pics soon. I'm part owner of a rehearsal/recording studio, and will set this rig up over there.

Jubilee halfstack, Matchless Chieftain 212 combo on top of salt/pepper 412, Bogner XTC halfstack. That's going to be the sickest rig I've ever plugged into!

Gray/black transitioning into gray/black/dark tan, transitioning into black/cane. That's gonna be pretty! lol

Joe my man..... that's one SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEET deal! I love it and have been hunting for one for a while too and I think you've got a great deal because it's empty leaving you open to experiment if you so wish. Nice one.

Re: Marshall cab score! And it gets better!

Hope it will make some fun noises for you Jonser....them are mighty nice cabs!

I have it all spread out on my floor right now, transferring the Vin 30's/G75T's from my Jubilee's straight cab. That combination always sounds good since you've got the high/low from the G75T's and the upper mid punch from the Vin 30's.....the same combo used in the Bogner Uberkab.

It'd be nice to have H30's or Greenbacks, to stay with the traditional sound of those cabs, but I want it up and running right away.

Re: Marshall cab score! And it gets better!

Here's some pics I took tonight.

Jubilee straight cab after I emptied it.

Marshall 1960AHW as I was loading it with a criss cross of Vin 30/G12T-75.

Put them back in The Room of Tonal Delight....minus the Matchless I keep in the living room. Notice the Josey Wales poster...watched it again last week.
