Marshall cab score! And it gets better!

Re: Marshall cab score! And it gets better!

Now you need a 1959 Head......
And your journey to the dark side is complete....:D

I've had a few really nice plexi's, and right now I wish I had one of them back.
I had a gain modded 71 Superbass, 50W reissue, and handwired boutique 50W plexi by Brittone.

What I really wish I had is a Mojave Scorpion. If I get another plexi, it'll be an 18 watter like the Marshall or Fargen. I also like the Egnater Tweaker a lot.

If you want to hear some killer tone, go on youtube and type in Mojave Blues Saraceno.

Yeah, it turned out better than I'd anticipated. The cab is awesome looking. I look behind me, and there's a mint version of the one that's in front of me....a picture of Hendrix jamming his headstock through it!

How could he do such a thing???? LOL That cab is not necessarily stoned, but beautiful!

It'll look even better with my metal front Bogner XTC head on top of it.

My biggest concern is my lack of space. I now have 2 Jubilee cabs, a Bogner slant, Bogner large 212, and now this 1960AHW basketweave.
I really shouldn't have, but for the price of a good pedal, I had to.

If you can't find the space.... PM me I may be interested!

Dude, you have the most insane luck finding gear steals. Nice! Congrats!

Re: Marshall cab score! And it gets better!

Well, I cranked the thing up with the Ecstasy on it tonight, and I'm liking what I'm hearing, but especially on the top Vintage 30 side. I'm thinking that the criss cross pattern will change to Vin 30 on top and both G12T-75's on bottom for the lows and high cut. And micing it will mean micing a top speaker.

My ears are really tuned to the Vin 30, and it's also what the Bogner was designed around. The cab is pretty much the same construction as the Bogner 412, although the Bogner has some Corning insulation placed in it......that's about the only difference.

One cool thing Marshall did was drive a screw through the back panel into the center spacer to solidify it's connection.

I think eventually this cab will be Vin 30 on top and H30 on bottom, getting rid of the G12T-75's. They're good speakers, but I want this cab dialed in 100%. Overall, the cabinet is bouncy resonant and totally rocks. The bounciness of the low notes and smoother highs is what separates vintage construction cabs from modern JCM 800/900 cabs.

Re: Marshall cab score! And it gets better!

And the great thing is you really don't need to worry about room. Me and Lucid will hold on to your Ecstacy and your Matchcless till you get more space. As soon as you do we'll send them back to you. Go ahead and send them right away.

Re: Marshall cab score! And it gets better!

An update on the band situation....the guy who sold me that cab is a bassist, part time guitar junkie, and we're assembling the band right now.

It was a complete stroke of luck to run into guys who are the same as me, and only 2 miles away. I'm more excited about that than the cab itself, because I've been spinning my wheels for 3 years, hopelessly trying to find real deal blues rock guys in LA.....and they're so close!

I don't worry about space. I have my things at my place, because if they were in my co-owned studio, I'd constantly worry about morons playing them or stealing things.

But this new band that looks completely promising has a guest house rehearsal space with bassist, singer, and keyboardist.....so we're quickly trying to get a great drummer in the room ASAP.....then rehearsals begin.

Re: Marshall cab score! And it gets better!

Cool....
I don't have the time for a band....plus the last time I got so sick of it that I nevr wanted to be in one again, but this sounds like a good thing for you man!
God luck!

And Jerry...people can fly ;)

Re: Marshall cab score! And it gets better!

I'm telling you...I don't get excited about clips'n'tips. I don't care to do them or listen to them. I've always been in bands since I was 14, and anytime I'm not in one, my soul is sick. Getting into a new band is exactly what I need to be mentally sane. That's honestly the only high that truly makes me happy. Being musically inactive is like a form of torture to me.

If you wonder why I don't do clips....it's because I don't give a F about 'em. Being a creative member of a band is all that does it for me.

I'm pretty much the same way... I love playing with my brothers and jammin and just going in the moment... and I LOVE watching bands do the same. Just flat out kicks butt... congrats!

Re: Marshall cab score! And it gets better!

Here's some pics I took tonight.

Jubilee straight cab after I emptied it.

Marshall 1960AHW as I was loading it with a criss cross of Vin 30/G12T-75.

Put them back in The Room of Tonal Delight....minus the Matchless I keep in the living room. Notice the Josey Wales poster...watched it again last week.

WOT! (Wall of tone!) Congrats!

You saying it has the pink insulation in it??

What is the difference in the construction tween old cabs and new? Solid wood vs pressed board?

Sounds like fate for the band.. Look forward to hearing how this plays out.
Funny, all these years I assumed you were a studio guy..

I think Bogner puts the insulation on the inside of the back panel to cancel out standing waves. I'm not sure of all the details between vintage and modern, but I think new ones have a particle board back, cheaper plywood, and thicker elephant tolex....and usually G12T-75's in the 1960A.

In the past 5 years, I have done quite a bit of studio work for music libraries catering to cartoons and commercials....most of which I don't own the rights to and can't freely post on the net. I've also played on several friends CD's, and played the occasional gig. Before that, I was 24/7 rehearsing and gigging from age 15 to 35. I sort of needed a break from it, but now I'm itching to get back to playing live. Life is boring, not being in a band.
