Marshall Zakk Wylde Microstack. I like it!

I stopped in at GC this evening, just to see if they had the new Vintage Modern and JVM. They were sold out of those, so I spotted an Epiphone Zakk Wylde LP and limited ed. ZW Microstack. It's 15W, has a clean and gain channel, along with 2 little 1-10 cabs. Just for kicks, I played all the Ozzy and Sabbath riffs I know, while listening to the range of this lil stack.

I have to say, it's a fun little practice amp, perfect for apartment/dorm/domestic low volume.....although it has all the signature Marshall tones, from clean to super highgain. At no point does the amp sound stale, just because it's got reverb and small high efficiency speakers. I'm not sure what the speakers are, but they sound fine. No need for a distortion pedal with this amp either, because it's got tight low end chunk and bright crunchy highs, and the gain is as much as you'd need.

This might be a fun amp to get, since it sounds good, and once they discontinue them, you can easily get 100% or more of your money out of it, if you decide to sell it. I like the fact it looks like a tiny version of his fullsize stack....same grillcloth.

I think it'd sound best if you got 18ft speaker cables, and placed the 2 cabs far apart. It would sound even bigger.

I've played the newer MG Microstacks and they actually do sound pretty darn good. I thought about picking up one of those and gigging with it....LOL. Or buy 3 of them and set them up behind you as a backdrop for that Spinal Tap look....LOL.

But doesn't this picture kinda take some of the toughness away?

I havent played the ZW one, but played a micro stack at GC the other day and was pleasantly suprised how organic the distortion sounded for a little solid state box.

You mean that Stonehenge look...

I do not, for one, think that the problem was that the band was down. I think that the problem may have been...that there was a Stonehenge monument on the stage that was in danger of being crushed by a dwarf. Alright? That tended to understate the hugeness of the object. - David St. Hubbins

they're the same amp...all they did was change the looks and charge more for the ZW model. so you pretty much did play it lol.

Just when I had no G.A.S.........grrrrrrrrrrrrr. Ya bastid!!

Re: Marshall Zakk Wylde Microstack. I like it!

I wonder if this differs somehow from the regular MG 15?
My MG15 DFX is merely ok...but, I honestly despise the grainy, harsh distorition. The only way it sounds halfway decent is scooped...but I LIKE mids!

Re: Marshall Zakk Wylde Microstack. I like it!

That looks cool Mike, do you have any idea what ballpark pricing is for it? Is that 2 10"?

Re: Marshall Zakk Wylde Microstack. I like it!

The fact that it has 2 small sealed cabs gives it a better sound than I've heard through MG combo amps. Still, I think of it as a fun toy. The only reason I haven't seriously thought of buying one is that my Valvetronix head/Bogner cab is too hard to beat, for a home practice rig.

It was fun playing the ZW guitar into the microstack at the store though. It's a fun little amp that will surely be a collectible. For the price of two sets of pickups, that little stack is a cool lil amp to have.

It's awesome that Krank is making that microstack. I'd love to play around with that one. It'll be a lot more money though.

Just did a little searching around. Looks like the cabs are gonna be 12", and the MAP for the half stack is gonna be $699. The full stack is gonna be $899.

I see a purchase in my future...

Re: Marshall Zakk Wylde Microstack. I like it!

$900 is the right price for that Krank. If it were more, nobody would buy it, and if it were less, it wouldn't be worthwhile for Krank to produce it. It looks like a fun amp to turn up to 8 or 9.

As a living room rig, it'd be funny to have the head in your entertainment center, and have each of the little speaker cabs on both sides, on top of your stereo speakers! That's what I'd do with it.
