Marshalls in the USA

Re: Marshalls in the USA

When I go on Ebay, sometimes I sort for U.S. currency only, just because I've noticed a lot of auctions from Britain on the American Ebay. The exchange rate and shipping is a deal breaker, so I don't even look at those auctions.

I'm curious though.......does anyone know, in US dollars, how much new Marshall DSLs/Plexi Reissues cost? Also, how much are Vox AC-30's (Chinese and UK?)

Re: Marshalls in the USA

In the UK you mean? The DSL heads go for around £500 new for the 50 watters, which is what, $900 according to xe.com. I didn't realise the dollar was that weak at the moment...

Re: Marshalls in the USA

Dollar is VERY weak against the pound at the moment, and the Euro has been just plain weak ever since it came into being. Tis both a blessing and a curse for us brits....

Actually, an economist would tell you exactly that. If a company sells all the stuff it builds at $___ each, it's hard to say that they're overpriced because the fact is that folks are willingly shelling out the dough.

Also, the profit margins on a lot of gear end up being a lot less than you'd suspect, especially at the high end. Though it seems to me that a lot of gear importers/distributors mark up quite a bit, I suspect that there's a good financial reason for it.

I knew as soon as I posted this I would get a response like this one. You are correct: market forces dictate prices. If people are willing to pay $3k for a Les Paul with questionable craftsmanship, that's what the price will be.

My point is - and no one has addressed this yet - telling people to stop whining about prices is rude and irritating, and it accomplishes nothing. This goes double for the cases where complaints are worthy and justified by real knowledge and facts.

Explaining to people why something costs what it does is one thing, but as soon as you get on your high horse and accuse people of being greedy and "not getting it", you are no longer being helpful, you're just being an ass. That's all I am trying to say. I'm sorry for not making myself clear before.
