alright, i gotta mesa single recto...clean channel and distortion. clean channel has two modes, distortion has 3...i dont know **** about midi, but i saw on engl's website they sell midi footswitches that can toggle between all the countless different modes they have...could this be done with my amp? toggle between clean/pushed, and raw/vintage/modern??

Re: midi

midi is pretty sweet; check your amp guide to see if it says that it has the midi option; bogner and a few other amps have the midi capacity

Re: midi

I don't think Mesas do MIDI, but DON'T QUOTE ME

I am curious of just how easily THE Bogner XTC works on MIDI, I mean it designed to work with Bradshaw type witching systems, but I cannot imagine it is easy to configure for normal use.

One option I can tell you is - get an Access Elec. or TC Electronic G Major or similar. These units have analog relays in them so you can change your amp settings using your rack units. I find this VERY handy with my Shiva - I click on a MIDI controller and I get Distortion/Boost channel, a 4dB volume boost, with Delay and Reverb as an example with one tap of a switch, etc etc- very nice.

Re: midi

Mesa Single Recto's have a midi socket, but they DO NOT run on midi. The midi cable is simply used as a cable to connect to the amplifier specific foot switch.

It's a bit of a misconception that the Bogner Ecstasy is MIDI - it simply isn't. It uses a 7 pin Medusa snake with 7 1/4" cables on the other end that you can connect to MIDI controlled relays (such as http://www.skrydstrup.com/MS8.htm). Assuming you wanted all 7 functions, the easiest option in terms of availability would be two Axess Electronics CFX4's.

Alternatively, it can be controlled with a single cable via the Axess AC8, but that's currently discontinued.
