Multi-fx units - Suggestions? Recommendations?

I'm considering ditching the single-pedal setup, and going with a multi-FX unit. I'm gettin' tired of tap dancing when I wanna change sounds.

The idea of rackmount unit is appealing to me. It would keep the cables coming out from the FX loop nice and short.

Wouldn't need any distortion or amp emulations from the unit, just straightforward FX processing. Thing is I'm a sortof lo-fi kinda guy. I really like the analog delay setting on my boss DD-20, my Seymour Duncan Shape Shifter tremolo, my voodoo lab analog chorus, etc etc. I wouldn't wanna end up with a FX processor that's too digital and clean.

But, uh, either way, what kinda multi-FX units do ya'll use and love?

TC G-Major if you intend on using it in the loop. Its clean and digital, but sounds amazing.

I don't think I've never seen a mfx unit thats not digital, especially a rack unit

If you want to keep good sounding analog pedals (who wouldn't) but reduce the tap dancing, look into buying an a looper pedal switcher type system

You plug in all your pedals and can create presets so you just hit a button and it will engage for example a compressor, chorus and delay. Then you hit another button and it will take those out of the loop and add other ones

They vary is price and complexity but work wonders and you can still keep your pedals

I used to have an Ibanez UE-405. It was 4 of their pedals - parametric EQ, chorus, analog delay, and one more which I forget, in a 2U rack unit, with a footswitch for turning each on and off. the order could be changed by means of switches on the front plate, and there was a loop for inserting other effects in between.
Pretty cool unit but I sold mine cuz I wanted the cleanness of digital effects at the time. Now I think it'd be cool to have those vintage Ibanez effects on hand. I miss it.

The TC Electronic stuff is supposed to be great.

I still have my Rocktron Replifex. I like the sound of that unit a lot. And it does not have a preamp. It's just an effects unit. Only thing it's missing is a loop so you can put stuff like compression and EQ ahead of your amp and the chorus, phase, flange, delay & reverb after it.

I used to use an ART SGE. You can probably find one of those for under $100 now. If you like lo-fi, this may do the trick for you. Passable effects. By no means studio quality. And it had everything. Distortion, EQ, pitch shift, reverb, delay, chorus, flange, enhancer, panner...

I use a Zoom 1201--all analog controls, no menus to learn, no buttons to push. Adjustable input and output levels so you can set it up for FX loop, instrument level, whatever you need.

They're usually cheap because it's Zoom, but since there's no distortion settings, it still sounds pretty good.

If you like the organic, I'd look into a switcher and a rack drawer to put your pedals in. Or, for less $$ a CM Octaswitch right on your pedalboard.

Rocktron do some nice ones, the older repliflex unit has a relay switch aswell so when you select your patch it can change to the channel you want aswell... so even less tap dancing.

I would go for something small from the DigiTech GNX line. Those all have a bunch of features you probably woudn't use, but they sound great.

TC G-Major or Rocktron Intellifex, unless you want to get into the higher end units, in which case a G-Force or G-System almost can't be beat!

I'd go for a TC G-Major. If you really wanna go all-out, get a G-System... I love the way you can rackmount the brains of the thing after disconnecting it from the unit and then connect the two with a CAT 5 cable. I wish there was a less expensive version that used that setup.

I use a lower end digitech processor that i picked up for 50 bucks, just for a few delays and modulation effects. It gets the job done. It doesn't sound great, but i'm really too poor to care. It's not so much the way the effects and such sound, its the way it makes my amp sound. It just robs a little bit of my tone. I would love to be able to afford a decent delay pedal and a few mod effects pedals.

however, it does have a noise gate and a tuner. The only real plus to having the thing. I can't see getting rid of it any time soon.

I use a Rocktron xpression and I am quite happy with it. If you rely on a good pitch shifter though it may not be a good choice because that is the only thing negative I can say about it.

Cool cool, I'll look into a few of these :). Does the G-major have an analog delay setting on it? Eh, either way, if I can pick up a multi-fx unit cheap enough I wont have to sell all my pedals. The only problem I have with a looper systems is that they create a bit of a paradox for me...if I use a rackmount looper system and keep my pedals in a rack drawer then I cant access the tap tempo on my shape shifter, or my presets in my DD-20. If I get one that I set up right next to my pedals...well...I don't have any more space on my pedalboard to accommodate such a unit :x.

Eh, plus I'd really like to try and cut down a little bit on the complexity and weight of my rig. A lot of them pedals are HEAVY.

Wish I had the money for something like the G-system. That'd be friggin perfect.

Any of ya'll ever try the Boss GT-Pro? Got a lot of modeling and dirt and stuff I don't need, but...well...Opeth uses the GT-6 live :X.

Fanboy status? You know it. Seems to get some cool sounds on MF.com. Any thoughts?
