Multi-fx units - Suggestions? Recommendations?

Re: Multi-fx units - Suggestions? Recommendations?

Tis a cool looking unit, but one of the main things it seems the G-system has going for it is the fact that you can pull out the brain and rackmount it. Doesn't seem like you can do the same with the nova (doesn't mention anything like that in the manual). Still pretty spiffy lookin though.

Re: Multi-fx units - Suggestions? Recommendations?

It has to be clear that I'm talking about GNX, not RP. There is a big difference.

Re: Multi-fx units - Suggestions? Recommendations?

Everybody hatin on the digitech.
I used mine for years with no issues. Nobody ever complained about my sound, and there were times my bandmates actually complimented me on it. Ran it a couple of times with another guitarist who uses a higher end POD, and it compared favorably. It is an RP200.
Just saw another thread where someone liked their digitech better than their POD. Pretty sure that was an RP also.
Saw a band last week, had an awesome sound. One of the guitarist ran his gibson V through a couple of expensive pedals, and a digitech RP50 (note: I forgot to ever ask him what he was using on the RP) then on to his Marshall head and peavey 4x12.

The digitech RP series is pretty much regarded as the worst sounding MFX line around, at least in these parts. I think there was a thread a few months back talking about those units and over the course of 3 or so pages it was about about the only thing I've seen everyone agree on, with probably 99% of posters saying they thought it was utter rubbish.

Worst MFX unit I've ever tried, RP150

HOWEVER, thats not reason for you not to enjoy yours if it gives you the sounds like you.

One mans trash is another mans treasure after all (not saying trash to sound insulting mind you)

I've got a buddy who actually likes old units like Digitech and Zoom. He runs them at a reduced voltage to get that dead battery sound.

Very harsh and digital sounds come from the thing, but you know ? Thats why he loves it. He does industrial and post rock so its right up his alley.

Point is its just all about what works for you.

Rememeber as well that most posters on this forum are guys with several expensive tube amps, thousands of dollars worth of effects pedals, a bunch of guitars etc. This is a hangout for the gear obsessed types (myself included)

If you go to an exotic European sports car forum, I doubt the Honda Civic will really be that respected either, though its fine transportation for the money.

Yeah that ability to separate the brain and the floorboard is was REALLY caught my attention about the G-System. I wish Line 6 had an effects-only unit with that capability.

Re: Multi-fx units - Suggestions? Recommendations?

Leanin towards the G-major at the moment. Seems to be the only thing within my price range that seems pretty well reviewed. Guy on craigslist has one in "brand new condition" for 300. Might hit that up.

...or not, considering that he's 3 hours away. Dammit.

Re: Multi-fx units - Suggestions? Recommendations?

reguarding the whole digitech RP thing, yes they do suck. as i said in my post if i could afford all the pedals i wanted i would ditch it. They really only suck when it comes to the amp models, which i don't use it for and suggest no one to use it for. The effects and a few other things are usable. With a good amp and a good guitar whats the difference how the chorus sounds? Nobody except other guitar players and tone chasers would have an idea that you're using a cheap piece of equipment.

so is a POD really worth 400 dollars more than my digitech? not to me, i would rather pay my car insurance and take my girlfriend to see a movie.

Re: Multi-fx units - Suggestions? Recommendations?

I have an old Korg AX-series processor, which is not great, but if I just sit and tweak the parameters, it gets some good sounds. It's different from my Vox ToneLab, but both of them require some patience to get the right sounds. I guess that's how it is with most multi-effect processors. If you have a less expensive one, but you have good control over your fingers, you will probably get complimented on your tone.

Re: Multi-fx units - Suggestions? Recommendations?

Any of ya'll ever try the Boss GT-Pro? Got a lot of modeling and dirt and stuff I don't need, but...well...Opeth uses the GT-6 live :X.

Fanboy status? You know it. Seems to get some cool sounds on MF.com. Any thoughts?

I have and use the GT-Pro. If you don't want modeling, save $ and get something else, because the modeling it does is very very good. I like the 2 different signal chains at once thing...you can either switch between them, or have them panned right and left. Or switch between them depending on how hard you pick.
Also, if you don't actually like programming, stay away - i am one of the odd ones that like it. But it is really a very deep box.
