MXR dist + through clean channel?

Ok, so I've got an Laney AOR which does not have channel switching option, the way pre-amp is set up A/B is not gonna work either, when you plug into a Low Sensitivity input(clean) V1 is by-passed. I love the overdrive tone, my Spina TS9 is my jewel and it goes in to the guitar case not the bag(no pedal board yet). I was listening to MRX dist +, and I must admit, I love it because it sounds like a cranked up tube pre-amp pushed with overdrive. Amazing, best single note clarity from a distortion pedal I've heard. So, I was wondering in case in a future I have to do a tune where I switch back and fourth between hi-gain and cleans, you know, like a sissy baland or something, would MXR + through a clean pre-amp minus V1 give me the same type of saturation as TS9 does through a dirty channel?

Re: MXR dist + through clean channel?

IMO the Dist + is a decent sounding pedal...I think it is FAR better into an already driven amp but the thing is that is lacks the volume to really use it as a boost and into a clean amp is sounds kind of ratty...in a bad way...again, just my opinion.

Re: MXR dist + through clean channel?

Dist + to my ears at least, sounds thin and trebley (is that even a word?), especially with single coils. Humbucker's are a little better, but not alot.
I've just never really found a good combination of guitar and amp that worked with a Dist +
That doesn't mean it is a bad pedal. Just not my cup of tea.

Re: MXR dist + through clean channel?

Ok, so I guess I have to buy it, try it, and then if i don't like it return it, because damn ass GC does not carry Laneys and I cant try it in the store. AOR's clean is a very lush El34 british typa' cleans I am also gonna put in a JJ Gold Pin ECC83 into the first stage of a clean channel, so considering all these "inputs" which distortion pedal would you guys recomend for this clean channel of mine to emulate my AOR-Spina-TS9 pushed crunch???
