My first ever band practise as a guitarist! Thoughts and reviews...

Re: My first ever band practise as a guitarist! Thoughts and reviews...

Hehe no I can't drive nor do I have a car anyway... And no it may not, but it may bring me a slightly bigger, fuller sound I feel. The FS cuts great though! And yeah the AVT was very crunchy actually. I just had no bass :P Which pissed me off a little.
I don't really know what to do with that actually... if there IS anything to do...
I'm going for a very high gain, strong mutes mid heavy sound basically, as always pretty much. The POD works great for this at bedroom level hehe :P

Re: My first ever band practise as a guitarist! Thoughts and reviews...

there is one was to compensate for the lack of bass

volume

Re: My first ever band practise as a guitarist! Thoughts and reviews...

Then I'd be way too loud though :(
I'll try louder, less gain, treble and mid, and place the Bad Monkey in front I think... that could work who knows... Also the POD of course.

Re: My first ever band practise as a guitarist! Thoughts and reviews...

you're complaining about the weight of a basswood guitar?

Re: My first ever band practise as a guitarist! Thoughts and reviews...

It's a HEAVY guitar, basswood or not.

As far as I know, 100 kilos of basswood is the same weight as 100 kilos of lead :D

I'm skinny too, 5'8 and around 114lbs.

lol those were my thoughts as well... I thought basswood was supposed to be a lighter wood?

Well Pierre, if everything you own is heavy the only solution is to start working out! Carrying your own stuff is good practice because eventually when you start doing shows you'll probably need to be your own roadie... your body will thank you when you're muscly AND French.

Dude, 100 kg's is 100 kg's no matter what material you weigh. The difference is how much you need of the material to get to that weight.. a 100kg of basswood is exactly the same as 100 kilo's of lead, just like a 100 kg's of foam or whatever funny substance you could compare it to also would be the same, the kilo's aren't different, but the 'quantity' differs from material to material in how much you need to get to that weight. :laugh2:

It's called density I think.

... ok where did that come from...? And yes it's called the density of the material. For instance, denser woods tend to sound brighter (Maple), while more spongeous woods warmer (Mahogany) I think most people aged 10 or over know that :P

Re: My first ever band practise as a guitarist! Thoughts and reviews...

You could get a floor modeler and multi-effect, and setup 'your' sounds on it, and take that to the rehearsal space. Just plug it in the FX-return, and presto! Always worked for me with my Boss GT-8, on anything ranging from a Peavey Bandit or Envoy to a Koch KV50 1x15 or a Marshall JCM900 Dual Reverb halfstack. Might just save your ass.

Re: My first ever band practise as a guitarist! Thoughts and reviews...

Yeah that's what I do at home. POD + big floorboard into the effects loop of my amp. I can't carry the floorboard so I may just have to get the little channel switcher FBV2 or 4 which is easy to carry around with the POD.

Re: My first ever band practise as a guitarist! Thoughts and reviews...

well...

i thought my guitar was heavy..

then i played a feline guitars all maple gunslinger... and when i thought that guitar was heavy, i played a 70's (was it a 70's?) les paul, now THAT was an anchor!

soo.. start working out dude.. or get a REALY heavy guitar :D and then your will be a feather

Re: My first ever band practise as a guitarist! Thoughts and reviews...

Try backing off your gain, it'll do wonders in relieving mush and feeding back. Generally speaking, you don't need as much gain as you think you do.

Get a wider strap. It'll distribute the load of the guitar over a wider space on your shoulder and back.

Good luck!

Re: My first ever band practise as a guitarist! Thoughts and reviews...

That's great advice actually! I tried that yesterday and yeah, putting less gain diminished feedback very quickly. Still no bass though. I don't think there's much to do with that though...
I'll try to find a bigger strap... The one I have is actually fairly thin now that I think of it.

I guess the US is still one of the only countries dominated by personally owned vehicles.

This was my thought when he started talking about "carrying" stuff... It's easy to assume that everyone has a POV in all parts of the world, but that isn't so... I was stationed in Germany for 3 years, and public transportaion is THE thing over there.... I'm not sure of his transit, but I had SEVERAL layovers.... Imagine trying to get your guitar, your gig bag, your speaker cab, AND your Amp head off the train in about 60 seconds... then to the next train, and possibly into a cab..... Slightly off topic, but once you get used to the public transportaion, it's REALLY easier than all the maintenance involved in owning/operating a vehicle

Re: My first ever band practise as a guitarist! Thoughts and reviews...

We also like to walk to places at times :D
But given our price of fuel, even though our cars drink twice less than American cars (go figure since you guys have to use it way more :s), it'd be suicide to take the car to band practice. We just walk there with our stuff. So even when I get a head, it'll be hell carrying it over there I think.
