"My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

Re: "My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

Another very nice guitar Curly. But then, I've never seen any other kind of guitar on your site.

Re: "My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

Blue strats are my favorite, right next to 3 color sunbursts. I agree with you about the American Strat being a great value. They always feel and sound better to me than any MIM or Jap, and even the high dollar custom shops don't leave Am Std's in the dust....sometimes not even as good! I've sold CS strats, only to come straight back to the tried and true American Std. I'm so accustomed to those frets, I can't even go to a vintage fret. The tone control on the bridge is mandatory. I've had the TBX and Deltatone electronics, and honestly can't tell much difference. The detent is in the middle of the travel on the TBX and it's at the end on the Deltatone. Now, you just have to look at some pickguards. I can't get used to white on blue. I wonder how mint would look on yours, or maybe dark blue moto with aged white plastic parts? And to think it's Tele pickups you have an abundance of...not strat! Ha.

Re: "My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

i love daphne blue with maple fretboard, but agave blue is cool too, or at least thats what it use to be called(sorry i'm a lil' color blind with shades of blue, i can't even ****in see purple)

Re: "My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

well, again, you guys are all cool and very supportive of my bad habits! :)

joneser,
as usualy, I agree with you ... I guess I'm just not really into "fancy" axes. They make so many AS strats, they must have it down !

and I have a mint guard, but pearl looks better - I checked. :)

I do have a spare set of SD custom shop strat pups, too, but honestly, the stock pups are fine for now. :) ... and the bridge tone was a nice added touch

Re: "My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

Very nice Curly...I have a blue 4Runner and a blue Tacoma, both '99 and same color (Horizon Blue-hint of purple pearl).., yes, blue is my wife's fave color...hehe
I bet ya like Smurfs too...

Re: "My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

did you get it at a store or an online dealer?

Re: "My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

That is a sweet strat...and I should know I have the same exact one *Grin* but I got it right before the rebate *grrrrr* In fact thats the strat I did up the american stock strat clip with. I had gotten a couple of strat pickguards that are loaded with emg's to try out on it but the stock pups are so nice I haven't wanted to do the swap.

. . . anyway, beautiful guitar - enjoy! :)

Re: "My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

I think its safe for us guys to go out and get different coloured guitars now that Curly is cornering the market and in his blue period..

Nice looker - is blue the colour for this season or was it last season? I thought green is making a comeback and in at the moment. No matter enjoy it!!

Re: "My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

I like it! I had a P Bass that color for a long time. Congrats Curly mon!

Re: "My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

thanks again guys for your support!

I bought online from MF - I know some of you prefer not to do business with the big online stores, but I looked around locally, and didn't find what I wanted. I also like knowing what kind of return policy I have ahead of time.

and chrome blue is a current color ... personally I like vintage colors, but they mostly save those for the 50's and 60's guitars. That's one area where Fender needs to improve, IMO - their color choices right now aren't that great on the current lineup.

but the playability and fit and finish are just fine :D

Peace

Re: "My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

Very nice guitar and I love the color. Much better than the lighter blue "vintage" colors they offer. Looks almost as dark as my trans cobalt blue Strat.

When I went shopping for my Strat I really had my heart set on a blue one too and I was surprised at the lack of color variety Fender offers on its models. Lots of "vintage" colors like off-whites, black and sunbursts though.

Re: "My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

Gamera,
nice ax, man!

yeah, it seems like Fender went a little out of their way to make their color choices different this year (i.e., American Deluxe), and some models seem more limited in selection (American Series)

Re: "My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

Does anyone know if the pickups on the Am Std's (90s) are any different than the ones in the American Series (2000's)? I know they made some changes, especially the rolled edges on the fretboard, but have no idea about the pickups.

personally, I don't know a lot about the details, but the pickups sound close to the 90's ones that I owned - the difference being just the switching and the "Deltal tone" system that you mentioned. But the pups seem the same - glassy, pingy, but overdrive nicely around 10.
and yeah, I really noticed those rolled edges the first time I played one like that - makes perfect sense now.

Love that color. What did you play it through?
I played it through my Blues Jr, as usual :) seemed like a real good match to me ... but I should try the Deluxe Reverb RI, too.

Re: "My name is Curly, and I like blue strats"

Congrats on the fine looking Strat, brother! I, too, really like that color and wouldn't mind my next Strat being a blue finish.
I liked the pups in my '01 Strat, too. But the Antiquity's.....mmmmm.....love 'em.
You wait....I bet Curly still ends up swappin pups in that axe!

LOL

Great guitar, buddy!
