Re: My name is Curly ...

Nice job Curly! Honestly, if I could have one Gibson Les Paul, that would be it... Goldtops do something for me that no other Gibson has managed to do yet.

"Yup"

"I'll be down as soon as I can" ...

this part of the exchange made me laugh out loud :D

of course, it is minutae like this (and a zillion other examples just like it that just about all of us on boards like this askabout), that makes us a loveable insane bunch of cats :D

That's beautiful Gary, I'm gassing more and more for an LP and you're not helping to fight temptation! LOL!

Re: My name is Curly ...

thanks again, all my tone bros!

Joneser, it's a light back:

t4d,
I admit to being a little picky. A lot of the Goldtops, just like other LPs, have straight grain on the back, but some look this:

even my Class 5 has grain like that, and to me, it just looks like something they wouldn't have done in the old days
I could be wrong, though

i totally understand, bro ... i asked just as many picky questions of Scott before dropping for the PRS .. i just think it's funny when we objectively look at ourselves and enjoy our silliness :D

have fun

GOOD going Curly!!! I LOVE goldtops! You're gonna love it, there's just something about those historics that lends to this subtle expressiveness in the playability, I'm guessing that's a characteristic of the old les pauls that gibson managed to capture in the reissues because I'd never played a regular les paul that 'feels' like these ones...

I've got it down, all I gotta do within the next several years is get a p90 goldtop, and maybe a strat or tele for a good measure! :laugh2:

Re: My name is Curly ...

thanks, zep

I should designate you and Scott as my Goldtop's Godfathers :D

Re: My name is Curly ...

Gotta give some props to Saul at Centre City Music. If you are going to buy a new LP, he's the guy to call. He offered me a terrific deal on a new one, but I decided to go used. Very nice guy and easy to talk to and probably about the best deal you can find on a new LP.

Re: My name is Curly ...

Scott and I have talked about this ...
Saul can come off as being aggressive and a little pushy. He runs his store mainly by himself, with a little part time help. He competes in a market with Guitar Center and Guitar Trader, he's getting squeezed a little by Gibson's policies, and he's trying to survive in that atmosphere. He took the store over from his Dad, and the store has been in the same location for 30+ years.

I tend to just look past the aggressive part these days. Who hasn't encountered a pushy salesman, raise your hand! He honestly seems a little less so in person.

If you find a guitar you like, though, you'll get a very competitive place. It's really a lot more important to get the ax that's right than a lowball price.

Re: My name is Curly ...

Awesome! that R7 couldn't go to a nicer fella.

You guys are making me build up an unfeasably large case of R6 GAS...

I often stay at the hotel across the street from Centre city. Imagine my suprise one day when i walked out the hotel and went the other direction I hardly ever go... there was Centre City.

I think his demeanor over the phone probably has to do with all the calls he must get. I'm sure it's 100's of calls a week. He kinda pissed me off a bit over the phone, but was nice in person.

Re: My name is Curly ...

The time I called, he literally asked me for my credit card number about 4 times. High pressure BS. Not my cup o' tea.
