I can't say I haven't thought about this before ... like I told Scott, one of my friends told me years ago that Goldtops were the best deal in a Les Paul

after ledzepp29 and Scott's post, I went to look at another R7 just to see if I could even PLAY one.... you know, they have big necks and all, and I passed on the idea a couple years ago because of that
this time I found them quite playable, just like old Les Pauls I remember - big necks, great action ..

So ...
I called another (well known) dealer downtown ..

"Hey Saul, have you got a GoldTop?"

"Sure do, I've got a few"

"Have you got one that's LIGHT?"

"I've got one that's eight and a half pounds"

"Is the grain on the back straight?"

"Yup"

"I'll be down as soon as I can"

anyway, long story short, it was everything he said it was :D

Peace

Beautiful guitar Gary! Congrats. I'll give you a call sunday and you can tell me all about it. Sorry I wasn't able to return your call today. We were swamped.

Re: My name is Curly ...

hey, thanks .
you are all great!

the other LP I looked was an "Authentic" with aged hardware, and I couldn't help but think that Antiquities would be perfect in that guitar ...

but there's no reason I couldn't put Antiquities in this one either ... for now I'm just going to follow my own advice and just PLAY the darned thing! :)

Re: My name is Curly ...

Man oh man. I never in a million years would have guessed that it was you that bought the 57RI, much less any Gibson. Congratulations man!! I've been wanting a 57RI Goldtop for a couple of years it seems. You know what my question now is going to be since I'm looking for one;).....how much did you pay for it?:)

Re: My name is Curly ...

U guys are startin' to give the rappers a run for their bling, with the amount of gold around your necks!

Re: My name is Curly ...

Actually, this is Gary's 3rd Les Paul. He's familiar with the "Dark Side".

Another guy catches the Goldtop Fever. ;)

Re: My name is Curly ...

Uh oh, the bluestheater website is gonna be full of Goldtops, blue strats, and G&L's, between you and I. LOL There is almost no guitar that's prettier under lights than a goldtop. It was my main guitar for a long time, and now I'm back in strat and G&L mode. Reminds me, I should go plug in the Goldtop....I keep the best axes in a big iron gunsafe in my closet.....never wanna lose those!
