My new amp Peavey 6505+ 1x12 combo

Hi,

Well just got home from the music store with my Peavey 6505+ 1x12 combo.

I traded in my Randall RG 75w G3 Plus and my Metal Muff and some cash for the Peavey.

In the store the floor model I was testing was loud the gain was killer so no need for the Metal Muff with this amp.

I never had an all tube amp always SS, and now I know why so many people like them the tone is just god like.

Do not get me wrong I liked the Randall it sounded good but the 6505+ just blows it away in sound, tone, well everything else.

When testing it out was playing SlipKnot Psychosocial well trying to still learning the song but **** it sound so much better on the Peavey then on the Randall.

Not much of a review I know but I am 1 happy camper now.

Congratulations, for a guitarist there is nothing quite like getting used to your first decent valve (I'm British) amp. There's some decent solid state amps around these days but they still don't have the magic of valves. Have fun.

A local guy I have seen over 20 times in the last 39 years is currently useing a few of them..:notworthy
I think his tone starts in a 2x12 combo..
I have often seen him packin 4-8 ,5150 half stacks to deliver a very sweet tone..
Me,, I started as a Traynor guy (1971) and then into Fenders.
11 years ago I picked up a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100,, because it can do "Some" of the Fender stuff quite well, and add some good ole grit and dirt, as well..

That's probably one of the few amps that delivers perfect all tube high gain at home levels.

Hi,
Okay here is my review of the Peavey 6505+ 112.

Well after playing with it for about 5 hours (best time I ever had BTW). I have seen reviews saying this amp is a one trick pony well yes and no.

If you get this amp and only want to play clean, jazz, soft rock, country well you will be better off to get something else.

The amp is more for hard rock and metal the clean or rhythm is not bad it’s not a Fender sound but can be used for a different type sound and tone.

I mean it’s not a soft sound or tone. But also not a harsh or fuzzy sound or tone.

The crunch button is kind of funny little guy depending on how you EQ it when you turn it on you can get a good AC/DC type tone or you can get just a crap mud sound to the point you really cannot hear the note’s.

I did not get this amp for the clean or rhythm so I did not spend a lot of time playing around with it sorry.

Now for the lead channel (wow)
Okay the gain this amp has is insane you can go from a good metal sound and tone to a evil melt your face, house, stun small animals and kids sound, the EQ is very good you only need to just touch the knobs and you can tell A+ for Peavey.

The high, mid, low just scream.

Once you get your sound and tone you want it’s really easy to switch from song to song and not have to reEQ your setup maybe just a small tweak and your back to playing.

Now that’s was the one thing I did not like about the Randall you change to a different song or down tune a half step you had to go and play with EQ and vol. tone knob on the guitar to get it to sound the way you wanted it.

Randall G3 has a lot of bass I would set the bass to 3 on the amp; play with bass on the metal muff to dial in the tone and sound.

Now once you got it to what you liked tone and sound wise it was great. I got some really sick and evil sound out of the Randall but is kind of pain in the butt to do.

The 6505+ don’t have a lot bass to it unless you want it in there. I like that so much more cause I like to down tune this amp is great for that but sound just as good in normal tune.

The Pro’s
6505+ is a great choice for hard rock and metal.

Sound and tone A+

Vol. wow is this thing loud at 3.5 on the vol. I had the older lady across the hall mad at me yes I have very thin wall’s but dang the Randall when I was able to crank it was set vol. 6 but this amp at vol.3.5 is way louder.

Peavey logo lights up blue nice touch there, built like a tank very solid feel to the amp.

Cons
No foot switch included, I mean come on Peavey Randall gives you the foot switch for free.

For the money 6505+ 112 is a great amp for hard rock and metal if you have the means to get one it is a very fine choice.

I know I am not the best to give a review like I said this my 1st tube amp but I been playing for 15yrs so I like to think I know what sounds good even if I can’t put it into word’s.

the Peavey is obviously the real deal here and made in the USA but the bugera has another 12" in it and 60 more watts?
can anyone tell me how the two compare? they are about the same price?

The Peavey combo is not MIA. Somewhere in Asia, IIRC but, that has no bearing on the tone, IMO. The Blackstars are great for home practicing but, the cabs sound like ass (IMO) and I'm not sure about the Bugera's QC nowadays but, apparently it's much better. Me personally? I'd go with the Peavey every time. Built like tanks.

Congrats man, that amp is awesome. Before I went modelling way because of my bad spine, I was considering this one too. Now I have something really similar that fits in my pocket.

Well, considering that the Blackstar is not all-tube, I'd say the Peavey.:laugh2: It's all a matter of how loud you can crank the amp at home. If you want to practice at home at lower to moderate volumes - get the Blackstar. If you want an amp that you can really shake some walls with and use for gigging as well - get the Peavey.

I am going with the blackstar H5 cause after hearing this i think it blows the 6505+ out of the water for a better tone!v the peavey has a gain that has a annoying ripping paper quality to it?

is the 50 watt 5153 head got that peavey fizz(4KHZ) in the gain?
I can get one of these but want ot be sure it does not sound like the 5150's by peavey?
I am pretty sure the 5153 MX with two 5153 1x12 cabs would be a killer at home pratice amp?

That demo is a bit raspy being playing through Vintage 30's, the amp really has to be played through the G12H30's- and it doesn't sound like he has the resonance turned up at all, which gives alot of low end thump.
