Well I never seem to have time to do any recording, months ago my brother built me a Ef86 based amp. I never did get around to posting any clips with it. The sound was sweet but it just needed a little more gain so he and I talked about putting an EF86 pre-amp tube infront of a 12Ax7. A few months went by and I received a new pre-amp section for one of his other custom amps that did just that. NOw this really rocked but actually had too much gain and lacked any clean headroom, we talked and a month or so latter I received a mod that allowed the EF86 to be switched between triode to pentode . AMAZING. Set at triode the clean headroom was there, flip to pentode and growl comes out, both with the same great tone.
Now when the first EF86 amp arrived I could not find an overdrive that sounded good with it. My OCD sounded course/gritty. A got a 12AXE from Australia but was disappointed. I finally ordered a Zendrive. What a great pedal! Gave me the OD I wanted without altering the tone.
So here is a quick clip I threw together. I used a borrowed backing track
Guitar: PRS Santana, neck antiquity with A3 up until 1:22 then C5 bridge with the degaused A5 fom my brobucker.
Zendrive
Amp: set clean with the EF86 in triode mode, a blackface type circuit following, power tubes were NOS EL84's
Speaker: celestion blue.
Mic:sennheiser 421

as usual ignore the odd clam. I just put one take down and don't bother to edit.
