My Nine Prototypes: gotta keep busy!

Over the course of the last three years I build me nine prototypes, three per year on average (2+4+3, to be exact). I wanted to build just two when I started, but once I got started, I couldn't stop. Now, I don't want to stop... It started with a Telepaul, then my take on the LP Standard and from there, it just took off: a ToneMachine (my take on the Blackmachine), a semihollow LP with 3 hums+trem, a 'strat' style platform, an SG style platform, a hybrid between the tele, strat and LP and to top it off, a carved LP Special with a minihum and a p90. The ninth is a solidbody LP with a slimmer body and tummy cut.

Just wanted to show my nine personal guitars. Hope you like 'm :) And, of course, as always: all guitars are loaded with Seymour Duncan pickups, going from the Fuglybucker to the vintage p90! Only exception is the set of QTuner pickups

Re: My Nine Prototypes: gotta keep busy!

Sweet man! Love the color of the first two, that greyish/slate color is awesome!

Re: My Nine Prototypes: gotta keep busy!

Nice guitars. I have a dumb question though. On the SG, the strings (mainly E, A and D) look like they go off on an angle from the bridge to the through body holes. Optical illusion in the photo? Or done on purpose?

Re: My Nine Prototypes: gotta keep busy!

I suppose that's an optical illusion cause the guitar is tilted to the left. The strings overall do have a slant, that's true.

Oh and in case you're wondering about the distance from bridge to ferrule: I measured it so the strings don't chave over the bridge's edge, as closely as possible. Since there's no tail piece, I had to... Improvise ;)

Very nice; love the two Ash ones and the White one w/the P90 and Firebird Mini Hum.

Re: My Nine Prototypes: gotta keep busy!

What I love most is that you don't just replicate someone else's design. You take the best features of different designs and hybridize them into your own special creation. That, to me, is what differentiates between "this level" and "next level". Kind of like the difference between a cover band and an original recording artist/songwriter.

You, my friend, are "next level".

thanks for the kind words, man! thanks you. I try to do indeed just that: take a classic design but make it totally my own.

The 'slate' colors are done by two different methods. The left one is watered down black dye, the other is black with trans white (more like PRS' white tiger color).

The purple one is indeed ash :)

Wasn't wondering about the bridge to ferrule distance but that's definitely a consideration you wouldn't want to forget about until after the fact. :-)

I really dig the Baby Grand on that single cut. Really classy. In all honesty, not sure how I feel about the color and I dislike metal pickup rings, but if you are giving one away, I'll take that one. :bigok:

The rings are the result of the fuglybuckers: others don't fit and I didn't wanna use plastics.

The babygrand was a pricy experiment. I like the look but the feel is off: it's not nearly as stable as a regular ToM and because of the supershallow string angle, the feel is ultra flexy.

Shame, cause the guitar sounds killer.

Interesting. I cant recall ever playing one with a BG bridge. Sounds like you may have to give that one away then. How much is shipping to the states you think? :-D
Oh well. Looks great anyway.

Re: My Nine Prototypes: gotta keep busy!

Shipping is approximately 120 bucks ;) But I won't give or sell these guitars. For starters, I need them as demo guitars. Also, I am not happy with how this guitar turned out. At all. Just technical stuff 'under the hood'. If that purple one, or the strat, or that hollow body, were on the chopping block, I'd be happy with that but not the pinky one.

Anyone remember when orpheo became a meme here? That when you were orpheo'd, you made the mistake of talking about a good deal, and orpheo went and bought it before you could. Because Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Anyways, those LP's are something special.

Re: My Nine Prototypes: gotta keep busy!

Those first six were sweet - but you totally effed up the shape of the last three!

Re: My Nine Prototypes: gotta keep busy!

The two Ash bodied guitars are real sweet! Great start to your collection. :cool2:

That was 4.5 years ago... My mistake was to see it as a 'hey guys look at this great deal! Snag it while you can!' Whereas the intention was more like 'hey guys look at this great deal: should I snag it while I can?'. I didn't read the thread properly, totally misunderstood the intent and got flack for it. Deserved, at the time, but now, I am kinda pushing towards '**** that **** and let's forget about it' cause I think I aided and contributed more than plenty over the last years to compensate for that misheap.

@ace: haha oh well. I never was under the impression I could satisfy EVERYBODY with this group. Even so, 6 out of 9 is imho a pretty good score. (You might like one of the other strats I made, I'll post pics later :) ).

@btmn you can say that again! ;) working on 3 LP's for myself right now, and I have another 12 here that I build myself.

In total...?

72.

Re: My Nine Prototypes: gotta keep busy!

I will say, the ones I've tried were awesome.
