My StoneTone block review has begun

Re: My StoneTone block review has begun

ελπίζω το μπλόκ του γρανίτη να σου δώσει 60 δευτερόλεπτα περισσότερο σασταίιν !!!

Larry: I wonder where we are.
Schuyler Davis: Maybe the sign will tell us.
[the sign is written entirely in Greek letters. Curly-Joe and Larry try to sound it out]
Larry: [laughs] You know, I...
Moe: I'll smash the first guy who says it's all Greek to me.
Larry: [waves a thumb at Curly-Joe] Well, it's all Greek to him.

Re: My StoneTone block review has begun

The B. C. Rich is my first Floyd ever. My only refrence is the stock block in this guitar. Maybe I will get my hands on a brass block next? Once I have the stock and stone block data it would be nice to have a third for comparison. If some one has a 37mm they could pop out of their guitar for a couple of weeks that might be cool.

I thought the test was brass to the rock block but to test all 3 would be great too.
The fat brass is the most popular of all the block upgrades..
If you need a fat brass 37mm I have plenty.
I'm going out to ship some orders and i'll bring this Brass block with me so if you have another source cool if not text me and I'll drop it in the mail with the others this afternoon..

The Fat Brass block has been shipped and now you're set. That's the least I could do since you're going to give such a thorough evaluation..:beerchug:

Thanks, I appreciate it a lot. I got the baseline tracks recorded. Just an open E strummed slowly (sonic spectrum) and four good hits (volume) on the chord letting the last one ring (sustain). No effects, no amp I am recording directly to a PreSounus AudioBox into Audacity. My new digital camera is on the UPS truck right now. I am waiting for it to get here before tearing the guitar apart and installing the StoneTone to get "good" pictures. And the UPS guy rang the doorbell as I was stiting this post. Time to make the donuts.

Got the block installed. I have to do the intonation now. That is going to have to wait until tomorrow at the earliest. Today has been a long day, and I am beat. The installation was pretty simple even for a Floyd rookie like me. The one thing I noticed right off the bat is the mounting screws for the StoneTone are twice as long as the original Floyd Rose. That in itself is very cool.

One thing we all know about tone though is that it's a result of all factors involved.
I'm guessing this is another one of those things that totally depend on what you're needing and/or what you're lacking in the present tone.

In other words, stock might be better for some rigs (depending on the tone you're after of course), brass for others, and stone, titanium, compressed hemp lol, or whatever for other rigs/tones.
No different than pickups or boost pedals.

Still happy for this review though, just beware that what sounds/feels better in one case might not be the desired direction to go in every situation.

Hm, this should interesting; looking forward to the ensuing discussion. Though we don't know how it sounds yet, it looks cool without doubt :D.

Granite + Cyrillic =

Serbian stone tone...slightly different Cyrillic than Russian ;).

original Floyd Rose.

@Bruce. Are you working on an Original Floyd Rose or a Special? (The photograph is not sharp enough for the engraved script logo to be clearly legible.)

@Everyone Else. Since an FR Special vibrato has rather a lot of zinc components, which change makes the more significant improvement, saddles or block?

Dave, wiser words have never been said on this forum. There is no absolute for guitar players and guitar tone. I shake my head in disbelief when I see people bashing a certain brand or product. What doesn't work for one guitarist could be the holy grail for another. We all have different techniques and styles of playing.

A $30 Danelectro Distortion and a Berringer amp might work better in some applications than a boutique hand built amp and a vintage TS. You will not convince most around here that the setup could be better. Some people have a narrow idea of what a guitar should sound like, if your guitar rig doesn't sound like theirs, yours don't sound right.

I am excited to hear and play this trem. If we don't innovate and experiment, we do no grow musically.

It is a Special. Zinc or not the guitar sounds and plays phenomenal. I would think changing any component of a bridge would make a difference. Like Dave just stated it is up to the individual guitarist to decide if that change is the desired effect.

True.

I had to assemble one working Jackson JT-6 out of three knackered ones. That design is one cheap POS with non-standard castings and drillings BUT, on my Charvel Model 3, it sounds right. (Besides, thanks to the unique stud posts, nothing else will fit properly.)

Re: My StoneTone block review has begun

I had a FR Special and did the Big Brass upgrade and noticed a significant difference. Granted, the biggest difference was replacing the stock pickups with the JB+Hotrails BUT I would say just being a FR Special doesn't mean its useless to upgrade the block....unless you are very happy with your tone, then why go through the work of tearing apart and resetting up a Floyd ;)
