NAD: I relapsed with Orange amps...

Re: NAD: I relapsed with Orange amps...

Really? I don't build amps or have a need to buy tolex, so I don't know. I'd imagine black is the cheapest, but I wonder why green is so expensive.

Well, the only place I could find it was on eBay and it was sold by Electric Amps themselves. Seeing how that particular shade of green is only available through them, I'm thinking it's a custom-order for them, meaning they pretty much can charge whatever they want for it too... looks great though!

Re: NAD: I relapsed with Orange amps...

Indeed it does. I heard they got in trouble for making the 'Green' brand originally. I mean, they used Orange's fonts and all.

Re: NAD: I relapsed with Orange amps...

My buddy's band is playing a show with us tomorrow night and he's going to use my rig. I am setting the stage for him to be wanting an Orange shortly muahahaha

Re: NAD: I relapsed with Orange amps...

Yeah, so far I really like it as is. I really did miss that commn tonality it has with th th30: thicker mids to a great crunch.

Meh, orange would've been better but it really does look good in person nonetheless so I don't really care.

Thanks for the tips. From the gear you own, I'm not sure a 15 watter would've saisfied you in the long run... That 80 watts is probably the weakest/quietest amp you own right?? :D

Hah! I have two 50w amps and two 5w amps as well... they can't all be flamethrowers. Glad my reputation is what it is though.

Also, i have to mention this because ElectricAmps were brought up: that company is a scam. I know people who paid up front for their $3000 amp and not receive shipment for 3 to 4 years. Orange and Matamp are legit; Electric is a ****show.

That's what I figured. They do have some rep for Hank 3 playing their amps (or does he have green matamps? I'm a bit fuzzy here).

Re: NAD: I relapsed with Orange amps...

Congrats man, that's a killer little amp you've got there.

Lastly: TV50. Loved it at first, until I played it long enough to realize how overly bassy it was on channel B and how boxy channel A was.

This surprised me though. I'm actually going to pick up a TV200 this weekend, and I'm hoping I don't have that problem.

Well, it could've been my cab (diagonal 2x12 with emi governors, close to v30s), I dunno. I just couldn't get along with the channel A, never could get rid of the boxiness of it at all, no matter what I tried. Channel B was OK but the bass was overwhelming. The shape control had to be kept at noon, otherwise there was either not enough mids to cut or not enough highs at all... it was weird honestly and I really, in the end, couldn't get along with it. Adding a TubeScreamer solved some of it by cutting part of the low end but it still didn't feel that good and, personnaly, if I can't get along with an amp's base-tone, I never really manage to solve it with pedals and I kinda don't want to either, I'm quite the minimalist when it comes to effects... My TH30 felt and sounded way better than the TV50, which was a big surprise for me (and a major regret). I think it took me longer to realize the tv50 didn't sound that good because I was somewhat biased favorly towards it.

I've read that the TV200 doesn't sound the same due to the 6550 power tubes so that may solve some of it. Also, your experience could wildly differ from mine and it could be your dream amp. Let me know though, I'm quite curious to read how it turns out for you.

I'll be using the Orange with a Verellen 6x12 cab, so that will definitely be different. And I would be pretty surprised if a 200W amp sounded boxy.

If channel A does end up sounding too bass heavy, I suppose I could just use my Green Rhino with the bass control way down to help tame it.

Chamnrl B would be the bass-heavy one...

Re: NAD: I relapsed with Orange amps...

I love my Micro Dark for low volume situations...and with a 2x12 can, it's shockingly loud.

I'm hoping one day to get a full blown Orange. The little single preamp tubed hybrid beast sounds good, I can only imagine what I could do with a proper Orange tube amp. Funny though, I hated the original Tiny Terrors. They seemed too compressed for my liking. Maybe a TH-15 or a Dark Terror might be more my thing.

Right now I have my eye on Vox's micro amps. Heard the Vox rep demoing it with the manager of the guitar department at my local Long and McQuade and was floored by it.

In general, I can say I typically prefer British amps but I'm like you with Vox amps. I've owned 3 and keep going back. Not that I don't enjoy my other amps, there is just something about Vox that I really dig.

Re: NAD: I relapsed with Orange amps...

It's been about 7 years since I had to sell my rockerverb 100 and 2x12 cab. And I still miss that setup.
