Re: NAD! L'IL DAWG CHAMPSTER is in the house!

Right now it's going to a V30 in my iso cab.

Thanks!

Okay, after some experimenting...

Champ + Tele = Twang City. Beano Boost doesn't do much. Going to try the BB Preamp as I am not thrilled w this combination.

Champ + LP = A M A Z I N G!! Beautiful break up at 1 o'clock. Kick in the Beano for instant classic rock tones.

If you have a crazy amount of endurance, you can check out this recording I made today.

Left guitar is Thinline/Matchless Chieftan recorded live w drums and organ to my Tascam DR1.
Right guitar is Thinline with the Champster. Lead guitar is an Agile LP cone w Bare Knuckle pickups with the Champster.

Gavet his a listen last night..made it all.the way through! One of my fave tracks of yours, dig the groovy bass line..reminds me of Sting in the Police era... lots of great changes but the whole thing works as a whole...chaotic order. what pups are in your thinline tele?

I felt the tone of the champ was awesome, records well..but did not have a big enough sonic foot print compared to the (edit) matchless you used here. Maybe just mixed a tad louder would suffice?

I am just nitpicking tho...amp sounds awesome.

What do YOU think, Ben?

Thanks! I can't believe we have written half of the entire piece already! It will be a fun project when everything is together. :)

The new Fender Wide Range pups.

I totally agree; part of the issue is that the Matchless was recorded from 10 ft away and the Champ was close mic'd in the iso cab; a touch of reverb and increasing the level would certainly help. I may do that when I layer in the Mellotron tracks. :)

Agreed.

I absolutely love it! It may just be a trick of the iso cab, and I will play it through one of my 1x12's this weekend, but I was surprised how NOT loud it is, in comparison to the Studio 2. I am guessing there is some truth to the 'Bober Watts' theory. :)

I am not in love with the amp's interaction with the V30, however. I don't hate it, just don't love it.

I have ordered a Weber 12A125A, recommended by Jim. If that doesn't do anything for me, I will keep looking around...

I've got Weber 10A125's in two of my amps. I've got an 8A125 in my Champ. I can't imagine you'll be disappointed with that speaker! Just remember that Webers have a fairly long break in period so try not to judge too hard until you've got at least 30 hours on the speaker. My Champ's 8A125 in particular took some time to really blossom. I felt, "meh" when I first got it but it's really turned out to be a kick *** speaker! IMHO, you can't buy a better speaker for the money than Weber!

Re: NAD! L'IL DAWG CHAMPSTER is in the house!

Thanks for the insight.

I had Scumbacks before and am aware of Weber's long break in. This is where an iso cab comes in handy! :)

Re: NAD! L'IL DAWG CHAMPSTER is in the house!

I had a late 60s silverface champ combo, and it too was not that loud..going from memory, not as loud as my class5 in combo format..certainly not as loud as it with the v30 cab. Was actually a good thing for me at the time, because everything else I had was a 50w or 100w Marshall or Laney.

Re: NAD! L'IL DAWG CHAMPSTER is in the house!

Well, me no complain, as this is purely for either live fill with the Studio 2 or for recording.

When the weather starts getting nicer I will make a clip with my Rivera 4x12 which allows me to use 2 heads in concert.

Re: NAD! L'IL DAWG CHAMPSTER is in the house!

Yeah...I figured that was the deal. COOL amp. Looking fwd to more clips.

On a tangent...what do you think of the wide range buckers?
