New Axe Day

I've actually never been fond of Ibanez ever.
I always thought they were mediocre and not very attractive or eye catching at all.
And then this little gem (near pun) dropped into my lap.

Rare (only made in 2007) Ibanez VBT700.

Specifications:
Name: VBT700
Years: 2007
Body: Bound Mahogany
Neck joint: Neck-thru
Bridge: Gibraltar Custom bridge
Hardware color: Black
Neck type: Wizard II
Neck material: 5-Piece Maple/Walnut
Fingerboard: Bound Rosewood
Inlays: Sharktooth
Frets: 24 / Jumbo
Pickups: Dimarzio D Activators

The Ibanez VBT700 or V-Blade guitar is a flying V guitar model, introduced in 2007 as part of the Ibanez X series. Originally, the design came from a custom v-shaped guitar that was made for Dragonforce guitarist Sam Totman. Despite some rumors this was not an official signature series but rather a "spin-off" of the original custom design. Totman did get his own signature series in 2008 based on the Iceman, the STM. The VBT700 was the only V-Blade model that was mass produced to the public and was only available in 2007. It has since been discontinued.

In my research, I stumbled across one being sold here on our forums... I forget which one of you owns one?

First I yanked the 7 year old strings off and put on the free boomer 10's.
Lem-oil on the board.
Tuneup and stretch in strings...

Plays great! No buzzing anywhere, action is just right.
Frets are a little on the tall side.
Neck feels very Jackson style to my paws.
Axe feels very solid.
This Gibraltar bridge is something new to me.
The D activators are pretty wowza! Sqwawksalot!
Neck thru, string thru is, in my opinion, the best sounding guitar form factor ever.
I'm excited to say I really like this guitar a lot!

More to come as I molest it more...

Re: New Axe Day

Nice dude, you pulled the trigger on the Ibby! I think you made the right call as the amps were not as valuable nor anywhere near as rare as this gorgeous guitar!

Re: New Axe Day

Thanks guys!

As I figure it, it had been like a year that he owed me....

I Never really thought I'd ever see it, which is OK, I like to help people out when I can....

so.... To my brain, Its kind of like I got it for free!

I had one of these and the Xiphos model from the same series (those are almost Jackson Warrior shaped.)

I really like maple fretboards and bolt on necks (can't stand painted necks) so I couldn't really bond with it, but they were both awesome guitars. I do have a King V on the way that I'll be putting one of my maple necks onto though. :D

Of which I own both, lolz. I don't have a pic of the XPT, but here's the VBT:

I did what I pretty much always do, worked over the finish so it's thinner and satin, looks just like those "vintage" EC1000's. I did the frets and put in a C-Bomb and Cold Sweat, 13-64's and tuned it to B. I need to get a new nut and some more gotoh's, but I like it a lot. I'll be keeping it around. Wish I had the hardshell, especially for the Xiphos. It literally fits nothing else.

Oh wow, that's right.

I actually had one more Xiphos more recently that I sold to a kid I had working for me, it had a coffin case that fit it pretty well. Swapped the cosmo hardware for black so it'll never show wear. :D

Re: New Axe Day

Those are nice guitars; I've played one V and two Iceman in the X Series. Lotta bang for the buck, nice sounding set of DiMarzios and great sustain. Congrats!

Re: New Axe Day

Ya I played the destroyer a bit. Didn't like the neck joint it the overall weight of it.
I'm pretty sure it would have needed a fret job very soon, it was very worn out.

May have been a reason for it to be worn out
And the other mint

The previous owner may have found the Destroyer to be the "Player"

Re: New Axe Day

Could be, there was a well used Washburn acoustic, and a brand new ibanez prestige there too.

But even if that destroyer was all that... He's missing out big time! Cuz this little bruiser can play! I really like it!
