New Book: "Pink Floyd, The Black Strat"

Re: New Book: "Pink Floyd, The Black Strat"

Cool book. Thanks for giving us a peek. Seeing this makes me want a copy. I know someone who will definitely want to buy this book. He's a Gilmour devotee to the Nth degree.

The book showed up in my mailbox today, and I just finished reading it. One sitting, but it's jam-packed with photos. Great book with lots of interesting details about the early days. Glad I picked this up.

Thanks for the tip, PFDarkside!

Re: New Book: "Pink Floyd, The Black Strat"

does the book have many detailed photos of the current state the strat is in?

He said he got that guitar at "Manny's", i've been there. Coolest music store on the planet. It's in NYC off of times square. I've heard of a lot of famous guitarists going there. check it out if you're ever in the big apple.

Manny's isnt what it used to be...

i finally found a copy of this book... pretty cool for the huge DG/PF fan out there... lots of info...

Re: New Book: "Pink Floyd, The Black Strat"

Thats too funny...I got my copy about 3 days ago...amazing read!

yup it's pretty good eh!!! that guitar has seen some serious use... at least the body has... the only thing that has stayed the same is the black body... i have a few axes like that myself... always changing stuff around...

the last part of the book shows the current state of the Black Strat... it claims the Neck and Middle PU's are out of the other black strat from 72 that David owned... i wonder what exactly were the specs on Fender Strat PU's from 72... were they higher outputs then Vintage PU's? was there any real differences to them from other Fender Strat PU's?

Those late 60's and early 70's grey bottom pickups are actually quite weak...they have a nice chimey pretty tone but no real punch...but thats not a hard and fast rule...there are beefey pickups from the 70's and weak pickups from the 60's...all those things varied a lot but as a general rule those pickups are quite weak...

good to know... i have a set of nice Fender PU's... they are out of a 1983 57 reissue... quite weak as well... the neck PU is really quite nice... no reverse middle one saddly, but still cool... i've been thinking of grabbing a Duncan for the bridge as it is a little too weak for me...

these 57 reissue PU's are in a black 90's MIM Standard that i made to look close to Gilmour's black strat... for a cheapie it's fun...
