Re: New Carvin love

Jesus Christ balls...

Carvin seriously makes some of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen.

Wow.

Re: New Carvin love

I remember a few years back after the japan floods Marty friedman had a heap of his guitar listed on ebay to raise funds. I so so so wish i had the money at the time. He had his v220 on sale and it went for a bargain

Re: New Carvin love

I have always been dumbfounded as to why Carvin aren't more popular. They are beautiful guitars.

I think the factory-direct thing is a hurdle for a lot of people. Though it would be impossible to sell them in stores for the same prices, I have a feeling they would clean up if they did. (Factor in the dealer, in the economics of it, and they would have to compete with more expensive competing brands. They'd probably still do well.)

Re: New Carvin love

Carvin are popular imo. you don't hear them mentioned as much as fender or gibson but everyone knows they make great guitars.

Re: New Carvin love

I find them positively horrific looking. Their '70s offerings like the double cut were okay, I guess. I dunno - every one I've picked up (about a dozen or so now over the years) has been completely void of any character. I think there's a reason you don't see many of them in the wild...

Not a popular opinion around here but its one I share with you. Ived owned 3 and and played a few others and just cant get on with them.

Re: New Carvin love

I've played a few in person that I found used in Guitar Center.

Excellent guitars, though IMO they're on the level of the Schecter Diamond series

They make them very pretty, their flame and quilt maple are extremely high grade, equal or higher than PRS Private Stock. But when you flip it over to the back, the back isn't as book matched as a PRS. The top of a PRS is much more deeply carved and detailed by hand.

Still excellent guitars

I've seen quite a few used ones where people have messed up the necks. Basses, too. I posted about this a few years ago, and everyone thought I was making it up. No, sorry, it's true. My sample size is one crappy third-rate U.S. city; deal with it. I credit it to people being dumb -- mistreating the instrument, trying to get something specific out of the setup and not adjusting things properly in the process. I think some people believe they should be able to have a perfectly straight, zero-relief neck and vanishingly low action with zero buzz on every fret of every string. So they tweak and tweak on the bridge and truss rod, no really knowing what they're doing, and they screw it up.

It's a shame, because they've all seemed really nice aside from that. Some were instruments that I might have bought if it weren't for whatever it was that happened to them.

Re: New Carvin love

^ What's with the pickup mounting rings? Two pickup screws per side? That's a good idea.
