New Guitar Day! (not the Warmoth Mincer is still building)

Like Mincer, I've apparently entered my "purple" era, ha ha!

While trying to convince myself I don't need a futuristic offset in a deep purple sparkle finish, I stumbled across this "used" quilt-top PRS SE Custom 24 in the "Violet" finish for just under $600 and it's killer!

This thing has a really stunning top for an "SE", especially compared to the other ones I've seen in this "Violet" color, and I actually enjoy playing it more than my lime green SE CU24, which is a great guitar itself!

Only thing I'm undecided on...does it need black hardware? I feel like it does.

I plan to upgrade to locking tuners anyway and I can get a Mannmade-style machined brass bridge in Black for $50 from China (I've used them on PRS before with good results!)

Thoughts?

I don't hate purple, but I kinda hate purple guitars... and yet! This ons is cool. It's a nice color even if I wouldn't be caught dead playing it. Love that figured wood.

All black is fine, but you could go the other direction - nickel or chrome pickup covers, knobs, and hardware would be pretty striking.

Thank you, guys! It's definitely scratching an itch...for now, ha ha!

I'm still leaning toward blacked-out hardware on this one as I kinda want more "edgy" than "classy".

The 85/15 pickups are among my favorite for pop-punk and hard rock tones, but the aura of this guitar has me wanting to play progressive rock/metal more than usual!

Hmmm...what would Petrucci do?

Dreamcatcher/Rainmaker lol!

Seriously though, I have always wanted to try that set, and it would probably work great in that guitar. I really dig that violet CU24! I have an older iteration of the "Quilt" theme with the binding, which was one of those "Exclusive runs" and I think the quilt top really suits these guitars! Mine is see thru black with a Floyd Rose. I have actually been thinking of pairing a Rainmaker with the AT-1 I have in the bridge. Black HW would look kickass!

All this talk of "nice top", "purple looks great", "I think black would go nice with that"

Sounds like we're in here picking a prom dress.

But seriously, that thing is a few pieces of black and black nickel away from being a masterpiece.

The latest SE releases are really a game changer. Congrats, beautiful guitar

The current SEs are better than they were a few years ago even. I had one for a few months about 2-3 years ago. It was OK, but nothing great. About average for a guitar in that price range. I played a 2025 model the other day, and it was fantastic.

Thanks, guys!

I believe all the black bits will be here this week. If so, then hopefully I will be able to get them installed next weekend and can post pics.

I had planned to stick with the stock pickups and got black covers for them, but the vibe of this thing is so progressive rock/metal, I'm really tempted to go with a set of Petrucci pickups after all...ugh!

We'll see if the urge is still there once I get all the black hardware on :)

Underneath every purple finish is natural wood, waiting to be clear-coated or painted black. Release the inner truth. Free these poor guitars from their purple cages.
