New Marshall Amps

Re: New Marshall Amps

the only thing I didnt like about the humbucker tone is that in my opinion the bass was abit too tight for a vintage sound..I suppose thats the modern coming into it

Re: New Marshall Amps

Just chatted with Doug Aldrich!!

he reckons the VM is the most unique amp he's heard in a long time. He likened it to a Plexi Super Lead on steroids and said 'Imagine what Hendrix's amps would have sounded like if they had a bit more Gain and punch!'

He loves it and is adding one to his rig!!

Re: New Marshall Amps

I don't like master volumes after the phase inverter at all. Apart from the distortion sounding non musical at low volumes, it just leaves you with no headroom left for when you want to hit it with a boost pedal to get more volume for a solo. For both disadvantages goes: unless you put the master up high and the gain low, which isn't exactly handy or the intention of a master volume if you ask me.
And how exactly are they going to wire this MV if it has a chip reverb and an effects loop. All your delay and reverb before it hits the PI and then a dual pot ?

Personally, I prefer the sound of EL34's over KT66's and having a clean channel is a luxury I could do without if I had to. Ack, I've gigged more with single channels than anything else ! But I have to admit, a clean channel can come in really handy and I'd rather have one on an amp. It simply suits my playing better these days.

So to conclude, I think it's a really nice amp that embodies a lot of what people have been posting on the internet for far too long, sacrificing actual guitar playing time. Therefore, I think it will sell pretty good but I also forsee it won't be hard to get a used one.

I love Marshalls and distorted sound that is so typical for Marshall is the only distorted sound for me. On paper, this isn't an amp that suits my style and taste that well. However, Marshall has surprised me before against all odds with the JMP-1, the midi pre amp that I should hate, on paper. So I'd like to hear this new gizmo for myself before passing judgement. :)

Re: New Marshall Amps

Just heard that Marshall are indeed releasing a 4 channel, all tube, midi head in January called a JVM.......

Re: New Marshall Amps

To my ears, the JMP-1 has a good souped up JCM 800 / JCM 900 SL-x ish sound at the OD 1 setting, I never cared too much for the fizzy OD 2 though. But it sounds like you're playing a CD, if you know what I mean. A bit (too) processed and smooth.
The cleans are workable, but somehow miss the sparkle for me to call them awsome. That's ok though, as longs as it distorts lika a Marshall. :) This new thing might be worth investigating.

Oh wait, you said midi head ! Not midi pre-amp .. In that case, the Just Very Metal will probably outknob the Marshall Mode Four, the Fender 5150 III and various engls.

Re: New Marshall Amps

Now that I've finally got to hear the clip (and see it) at home, I've gotta say that the tone I heard wasn't all that remarkable. I'm hoping it was just how the player had it set. It might have potential but I don't know honestly. Will definitely check one out with my own ears first though.
