New Peavey Power Slide Lap Steel

It looks wild, but it's designed to be able to be played standing up with a strap, as well as sitting down. I'm sure it's stock pickup covers a lot of ground, but the humbucker route allows for easy changes. $200.

I'm gonna start a punk band with a bassist, a drummer and two dudes playing these things. That kicks ass.

Re: New Peavey Power Slide Lap Steel

In case anyone may have forgotten..no one uses a lap slide in rock..well almost no one..who was it? ;a few 80's bands that were awefull?
Theres a reason great guitar people play slide on les Pauls, and theres a reason pro country player sit down on on pedal steels ( and only hawaiians use lap steels)..
its cause this thing is a gimmick..
It may be 200 bucks, but I'd pay 200 to never see or hear it again in my natural lifetime.
What appalls me is so many of you think its a good idea..

You're right lap slide in for Hawaiian music ONLY and only terrible bands use lap steels in rock music. See examples A and B.

Additionally pedal steels only work in country music. Take a look... such an abomination.

And your right the lap steel is a total gimmick and I expect it to die out any day now. I'm surprised it has lasted this long especially because it was the first commercially successful electric guitar. Its a relic and it is time for it to go away! It has no place in modern music!

I like that someone put one out that has a humbucker in the lower price range. The only other ones I have seen so far with humbuckers are made by Asher and even there import model cost a bit ($750). I'm not so keen on the Peavey's graphics. It seems like they are trying too hard.

However, if you want a USA made lap steel for not much more check out some used Chandlers. They go for about $300.
