I recently bought a TB-14 from a forum friend, B.T.W. thanks Trey!!! I guess the main reason for the purchase was that I've got pretty extensive experience with just about every humbucker from the 59 family other than the SH-14 & I had some cash sitting in my P.P. account that was just burning a hole in my pocket? The humbucker was white and typically this would be a deal breaker, I've just always hated white pickups, but my original plan was to cover it so the color didn't concern me too much @ the time & honestly, I didn't even know what guitar it was going to end up in?
When it arrived it tossed it in my old single humbucker Strat, mostly to get some sense of the pickup's characteristics so I could decide what, if anything, I was going to do with it. As soon as I plugged it in I knew it wasn't going anywhere! It sounds awesome, beautiful natural mid scoop, tons of output but still sweet enough for clean tones, and probably the biggest surprise to me was how much I ended up liking the way it looked in there! I've literally made it so ugly now that it looks cool!
LOL, I'm pretty sure this is the only white aftermarket pickup I've ever bought & I've bought hundreds of pickups over the years! Actually, I bought some white singles a while back but that doesn't really count because as soon as I got them I boiled the covers in coffee to "relic" them...
I'd had a Full Shred bridge in there before & it was alright... A single F.S. in Alder is a hard sale, I made it work but if you are only going to have one pickup in a guitar I'm not sure the F.S. is the best choice? I was able to compensate the pickup's "thinness" by tweaking my amp but it was a P.I.A. & I had always intended for that pup to go in my A.S.A.T. anyway, it just never quite made it there for some reason, until now that is!
