New pics of an old Hamer

Re: New pics of an old Hamer

NIce guitars guys...it's not often that I get GAS lately but all these Hamers are killer guitars and I really want one of those 70's "sustain block" Sunbursts!

Grover tuners!

I generally think Schallers work better, but these have a vintage vibe that's kind of cool.

Yep, Gene you certainly do have good taste in guitars. You've got some awesome pieces, from everything I've seen.

Re: New pics of an old Hamer

Thank you. Just lucky is all. Mostly I was referring to the Special thread where you had posted that lovely '95 you have!

Edited to add a shot of my P90 Special. Talk about a tasty guitar.

Conrad, you've got great taste in guitars, too. That picture makes me laugh, though. I have versions of all of those guitars as well. 78 Sunburst, 83 Vector, 95 Special FM, 97 Standard Mahogany and my early 80's Prototype I just finished putting together.

Re: New pics of an old Hamer

Yes you should. Nice Sunburst.

I did plug it in and play it for a while tonight. I've got nothing else with this guitar's sound. It sounded a lot better tonight, than it did when I tested it right after putting it's original bridge PU back in.

I'd forgotten how much better this guitar does the out of phase Peter Green sound, than my Les Pauls that I actually did the magnet flip thing on.

These are : '78 sunburst, '77 sunburst, '81 vector, '78 standard and a '81 prototype.

The '78 sunburst might be the best guitar I ever owned.

Almost all of them have both volume controls on 10!! And it's 10 or 0 for the tone control!

I took some pictures of my Hamer's wiring while I had it out because I wanted to try wiring up a Les Paul, 3 knob style, and I wanted to diagram what Hamer did.

To me, the Hamer seems like it behaves different than Gibsons electronically, and I've always suspected that it has something to do with having one less pot hooked up.

That's a .015uf cap. I can't recall if I have any of those.

I'm not clear what that white wire that's hanging loose is. It might be something I added to help me ground a replacement PU.

Re: New pics of an old Hamer

I believe the Hamer's use .01 caps stock. That's one of the key components of the tone response.

It must have depended on the model Hamer. I looked at a few of the wiring diagrams at the Hamer Fan Club, and they did show a .01 cap.

But here's a closer view of my cap, and it's marked .015+-10

I could only find a PDF for archtop Sunburst, and I couldn't read the cap's designation.

Re: New pics of an old Hamer

The Sunburst Archtop pdf is the same as the old "Peter Green" wiring diagram used on the '70s era Hamers. If you wire it up like that you will get the sounds on the tone card.

Download diagram: http://www.hamerfanclub.com/wire/sunburstarchtop.pdf

Try the card settings. I know the settings on there are '10' and '0' but they do work with any vol. vol. tone wired guitar not just Hamer. ;)

Re: New pics of an old Hamer

Dude, that's an original sprague orange drop? Were those OEM from Hamer back then?

It's what was in mine. I'm the original owner, and I never changed the tone cap. I imagine they used whatever they had on the shelves.

Just finished my diagram. I can read 500K on the neck PU volume pot, but I'm not 100% that the tone pot is the same.

Does Hamer still do the out of phase pickups to this day?
