New Project - Basswood Strat

Re: New Project - Basswood Strat

Roasted quartersawn maple with a rosewood board should sound interesting. The two woods together might balance out the frequency response nicely. That baked maple has to be a fairly dense wood with a tighter grain than normal maple, paired with the rosewood to warm it up a bit. Nice.
You might find the Demon in the bridge to be a bit under powered and might want to consider sticking an A8 in it for a bit more beef.

I hate waiting for the goods to come.

You and me both! :headache:

It wasn't underpowered in my Iceman; however, that's a different guitar and it didn't have a roasted maple neck nor a tremolo. I have a second project I am working on where I am putting a ceramic magnet in the Demon. I have two extra ceramic magnets so I may try that....I also bought an A9 from a forum bro buy that might be death by demon lol

Re: New Project - Basswood Strat

Nice project Trey. It sounds like you're going with the idea that I was going to suggest, for the middle pup. That is, put something unusual in there, like one of the Rails pups or a mini-HB'er. Looks like that's what you're doing. ;)

Re: New Project - Basswood Strat

Thanks Artie! Yeah, wanted something different than the HSH and I think the HHH will be cool. Hopefully the lil Screamin Demon will be a good fit!

Well, the wait was over...unfortunately the neck came in with a crack in it. :( Fortunately Warmoth is awesome and are replacing the neck free of charge. :yourock:

So now I just have to re-wait. lol But it will be worth it...the quartersawn roasted maple neck is amazing! Snapped some pics before sending the neck back, can't wait to finish this project!

That's looking really good. Have you considered painting the face of the headstock black, too? Or white to match the body?

Ha! The guy who painted the body suggested white on the headstock to match the body. I was thinking white or black...not sure yet :)

Re: New Project - Basswood Strat

That will be a very nice looking guitar when finished Trey! What is the PG?
Typically I don't care for painted peg heads on Strats. I would leave it natural.

Re: New Project - Basswood Strat

Either would look outstanding.

Thanks! I'm thinking white, especially with the black hardware. I forgot to include it in the pics, but Frank Verrilli put a white tip on the Wilkenson trem arm, so it adds to the contrast.

Thank you very much! The pickguard is Mahogany made to look like Ebony. Frank Verrilli here in the Atlanta area is the one I am working with on my builds...he got me started on the wooden pickguards and I love them!

I don't think the quality is high enough to show the grain, but he did an epic paintjob on this guitar! Its white nitro and is super thin–shows the grain very well on this one piece Basswood body.

For the headstock I will wait to see what it looks like with the hardware before making a decision. :) Since it came in cracked I decided to just snap a few pics and then box it back up.

I love wooden pickguards too. I once had a Tele with a walnut burl pickguard, it was gorgeous on the hunter green Tele body. I miss that Tele.

I bet that was an awesome pickguard!

That looks great, bro. Can't wait for the finished results.

Thanks! And me too!

That looks awesome!

Where's the crack in the neck?

Thanks!

Here's a pic of it:

It felt like an amazing neck, was sad to pack it up but am VERY pleased with Warmoth's customer service! I had asked what my options were and if the neck could be fixed or not worry about it, etc... They said they wanted to see it and then said they would remake it! :) Kudos to Warmoth! :thanks:

Re: New Project - Basswood Strat

Do you get to keep the cracked one?

Because i bet its fine haha.

My guess is Warmoth will take it back and either repair it or sell it as is at a lower price. I've found some incredible deals through them over the years on stuff like this.

Probably... If that were a maple board neck I'd be keeping an eye out for it myself. LOL
