NGD! Acoustic pickup advice please

After leaving my previous band because I was too "metal" for them :28: I've been approached about working with a purely acoustic setup! From one extreme to the other eh, it's bloody bizarre but finding musicians to work with around here is a nightmare.

Anyway, my brother in law had an old Fenix acoustic (think it's a jumbo, it's pretty big anyway) which he said I could have. It's a dirty mess right now, but, despite the fact the strings are green in places and the fretboard is filthy, it sounds fantastic!

So, I'm looking for a cheap but functional soundhole pickup.
The Artec MSP 50 , or the Duncan Woody SC looks like it would do the job, but do any of you have experience with this? I really don't want to spend any more than what the Woody SC would cost, since I might never play the acoustic - I never needed one until now and I'm 32!

I'd like to be able to record into my Toneport with it.

Haven't tried the Woody or any other magnetic acoustic pickup (I did stick an old Fender MusicMaster bass single coil in an acoustic once - did the job, but meh)

Well, er, thanks for that Newc!
The Artec one's half the price of the Woody, and it gets great reviews on Harmony Central. For £20 I think I can't really go wrong.

i have a Woody SC in an Ibanez AEG8. since the stock preamp and pickup were malfunctioning, i cut the Woody's wire and hooked it into the existing output jack of my guitar. Works very well and i don't have any external cables anymore. only problem is that i have to use an acoustic preamp of some sort to adjust the volume when i'm away from the amplifier.

Re: NGD! Acoustic pickup advice please

the K&K Pure Western acoustic pickup, IMHO gives the most natural sound without heavily modifying the guitar. It uses 3 soundboard pickups placed and where you think they sound the best. Having been mainly an acoustic player for years, I've used this pickup on countless guitars (over one's costing several hundreds) and always had excellent results. Having tried the iBeam, Matrix, ProMag, Martin Thinline, DM soundholes and the Woody, I still prefer the K&K. Check 'em out.

Yup. I use the K&K pure western too, its a really awesome pup. If you plan on using it for some serious live performance then id go with the active version. The passive one can be kind of quiet without any kind of pre-amp.

Thanks for the recommendation guys, but the cheapest I could find that Pure Western pup was £76 (inc. postage) which is too much for my needs just now.
I ordered an Artec MSP-50, which was under £20.

If anyone has one of these it'd be interesting to know about it.
