Okay folkwulfs . As the proud owner of a new Agile 3100 bought off an esteemed forum colleague, I want to throw out some initial obserbations;
First of all, as the owner of two Les Pauls Gibsons, I might have some basis for opinion.
I had heard about these Agiles and was very curious to attain one. I knew that people on the Agile forum claiming to have Gibson Les Pauls and saying the Agiles were better , or even just as good, was a huge load of bull. Now I am exonerated.
The Agile is an impressive beast..no doubt, and I have zero regrets buying it.
It has a nice looking finish, a straight neck, a rather good Ebony fingerboard and good Grover tuners. I'm not going into huge detail about its accoutrements, because if you are considering an Agile you may already know, and if not the infirmation is readily available.
But, I want o get right to it..its a cheap guitar, make no mistake about it. it doesn't hold a candle to a Gibson Les paul. The thing I like about it is its probably close to a Norlin, one of the ****ty heavy Norlins everyone loves to rag on ..and it IS ball busting heavy-over 10 pounds of Grade C "mahogany" wood ;THAT I like about it!
If you read the details about the Agile, they rave about the fretwork. The fretqwork is total sh@t. I don't care , although i was a littel surprised just how bad it is, even compared to my Korean Zakk Wilde Epi. I know a thing or two about set ups, and i adjusted the truss rod, adn everything, but this Agile need major fret work, and thats allright, cause I have a great tech who can make this work, but I mean, hey.."as good as a Gibson"..come the **** on!
But the sound is mediocre compared to my Gibson Lesters, even with some real good pickups that are in the Agile ( Duncan APII's). Flat dull ..lifeless..like a NORLIN!! I love it!
( but trust me, i know full well some Norlins are magic..and some are definitely NOT magic..this one is like a Norlin that definitely is NOT magic..lol).
So my plan is to put a Dimarzio SuperD inthe bridge and a PAF in the neck to have me a Ace Frehley guitar. It'll also free up my real Lester for a Duncan bridge Seth and a 57 classic neck.
After I get my great Tech to level out those supposedly wonderfull frets, and not everyone can do it right , so I'm blessed, I'll have a great axe.
By the way, they advertise the frets as "Jumbos",but they are just Gibson Jumbos, if that....fairly disappointing. The radius is advertised as flatter than a Gibson,,doesn't matter, the thing chokes out badly on any marginally deep bends up the neck., but like i said, my tech can fix that screw up.
All in all my Korean Epiphone Zakk Wylde is a substantially better guitar ,although that one also needed fretwork, but sounds better and feels better ..
Take a look at the picture of the headstock. The way the neck is shaved on the Agile is typical of cheaper Les Pauls more rudimenatary than a real Les Paul.
All in all, worth every penny, but not much more. I think it'd be a good guitar for Phat Cats, or Distortion pickups.
I wouldn't waste money with good low output pickups like Seths on this.
All in all, the jokers on the Agile forum claiming these are basically Real Gibson Les Pauls for a fraction of the cost are F***'ed.
Make no mistake about it though, for the cost, I dig this this thing!! Would I but another one?..I don't think so.Maybe..I need a heavy ass P90 guitar.
