NGD: Crapocaster

so i wanted a cheap kinda crappy guitar to keep in my van to play on my lunch so i built one out of spare/left over parts from previous upgrades. in total it cost me $15 for a bridge

Love it!

Details man... ya gots to provide details! Whatcha got in there for p’ups? How does it play?

Re: NGD: Crapocaster

I don't know if this was intentional, but the elements won't be able to damage the non-existent finish from keeping it in the van all day.

Re: NGD: Crapocaster

Not sure where you live, but even if it's a POS leaving a guitar in a hot van constantly can render it un-playable; separating fretboards, warping, etc.

Re: NGD: Crapocaster

So long as he keeps it in a decent quality case or under a blanket it should be fine. North Carolina doesn't have the most extreme weather.

some roswell pickups that came in my harley benton (i put a jb/distortion in that guitar and had the old ones lying around) and for what it is and thru what im putting it surprisingly well. im putting it thru a danelectro honeytone that i can keep in my car

nah just super lazy. see like 5 years ago i traded a keyboard for some guitar parts and the body i sanded down to repaint but found out it was plywood and just kinda said screw it its fine as is. but hey i can steal that as a reason.

Extreme relic job.

yeah.... lets call it that lol

well the upside of it is anything on it can be replaced with really cheap parts like a $20 ebay neck, or $20 body, im pretty much ok with whatever happens to it. worse thing that could happen is some idiot mistake it for somethin worth $$ and steal it but total i only really have $20 in it from the bridge and pots

i was thinkin $5 walmart gigbag

I notice the 5 way is gone. Is that 3 way switch in the volume spot?

yup its for 2 reasons one stupid and one practical. practical reason is i had a toggle lying around from an old guitar i worked on. stupid reason is i personally have never tryed to solder on a blade switch and would rather not figure it out. honestly i prefer toggles because they IMO are easier to understand also its like one of the cheapo box style ones.

Re: NGD: Crapocaster

$5 Walmart gig bag should do the trick, but it would probably be best to get one well insulated and in something other than black, if possible.

yeah but the objective is less $ only reason im gettin a gigbag is so that i can transport it more effectively. i get heat will **** it up but honestly the entire point is not caring if its ****ed up

What makes you think it's plywood?

well i dont have a good pic of inside of guitar but iff you look closely at the tummy cut away you can see distict plywood layers. here is a better pic of the sides but inside the cavity/under it picgaurd its much more obvious

Re: NGD: Crapocaster

In certain cases plywood could be pretty good sounding. Specifically, when using active EMGs.

I've recorded a total of six projects with that one. At the specific request of the different project leaders, I may add.

You forget that EMGs sound the same in just about anything. They are some of the best pickups in the world for guitars in which nothing else will sound nice.

Well... that's vox populi, although my own experiences have shown me that's not really quite that true. Single-coils EMGs don't always sound good in some strats made with expensive, top-of-the-line hand-picked tone woods.

OTOH, they've always sound good in low-priced instruments made of nato, pawlonia, agathis and mistery plywwod. YMMV.

I see that statement and I raise one "in some cases they're the ONLY choice". ;)
