Oh man, I can't stop laughing. I've got tears in my eyes from laughing so hard

What a great video!!

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

Oh, I was laughing so hard I forgot to reply to your post.

I got a Wilshire Pro about a year ago and I absolutely LOVE it. It has become my #1 guitar. I do have to admit that I got rid of the stock Epi pups and put a '59 (with A8 mag) in the bridge and a Screamin Demon in the neck, and Planet Waves locking tuners.
It feels, looks, plays, sounds amazing.

Good NGD to you.

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

That video is the best, I could watch it a million times and still laugh every time.

The Wilshire has been hunting me down for a while, played quite a few of them, this one just had a neck I got on with right away. A little to the chunky side, very comfortable. Real good fretwork on this one too which I was surprised at, not usually an Epi strong point. The nut is a little high and I'll swap out the bridge for a TonePros, take care of those when I do a setup for my gig next weekend. The pickups were OK I am sure they'll get upgraded. Using it for rehearsal tonight to get a better idea what it needs but I really like it.

Hm, have often been intrigued by those - the controls/jack layout looks like a PITA, unless you use an angled jack perhaps. Tone is like an SG, more or less?

I wouldn't mind the early 60s variant with P90s, but with batwing headstock and side jack.

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

The controls take a little getting used to and I think I am going to swap the bridge vol & tone but they aren't unusable by any means.

Tone is fatter than an SG, little thicker mids, with soaps they are very Jr./Special sounding, very much so.

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

Cool looking guitar. I like it! Congrats.

I never tire of that dog video. It's a work of genius.

To get that model with batwing headstock and P-90's just get the worn model...

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/epiphone-worn-66-wilshire-electric-guitar

and replace the mini hums with P-90's. The mini hums, however, are actually great sounding. I am a P-90 lover, but I find the sound of these minis to be at least on par and maybe even better than P-90's.

I have the worn model and the Pro model and love them both. The neck on the Pro is a little bit thicker than on the worn. Not much, but it feels great. I have very small hands with short fingers and have always played the slim taper 60's style neck, but this neck feels better to me. Not as thick as the Gibson 50's style.

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

I want the mini-hums as well but in a white one. I don't like the feel of the Epi faded finish they use on that model at all. I guess I could sand down the back of the neck maybe that would work for me?

So this thing killed it at practice. Epi has stepped up their game as of late it seems, I noticed a number of guitars have a lot better builds and features. The new LP's and the SG SPecials they just came out with are excellent. Seems the white ones have a different neck than the other colors, a more rounded profile which is quite nice.

The build of this little guitar is really good and it is really resonant which is nice, it has a little fire in it. I have to say I think the pickups might stay. I am not big on high output pickups which I assume the bridge is but they split well enough and have a cool raspy edge to them that I really like. They don't back off particularly well which may be their downfall but I'll try them for a bit and see if I can get with them. These do not seem like the normal Epi humbuckers, not sure I have look and see, but they have a little different sound quality to them.

^^ Pups are probably ceramic based on your description.

Yeah, but I like the early pre-1963 style more :); I've only seen a limited run Gibson-made reissue of this one and it cost stupid money.

The price on that MF one looks pretty good though.

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

I think I have found that they are Alnico mags. They are Alnico V, 4 wire. Read they were Alnico IV but it was a misprint supposed to read 4 wire I am sure.

I swapped out the bridge for a Tonepros today, a nice noticable improvement. Better definiton, a little more "chime" to the notes and it seems to be staying in tune better so far too. Still need to clean up the nut a bit but I am loving this thing.

I also flipped the Vol/Tone pots for the bridge pickup to give me better access to the Vol knob.

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

I've liked these guitars every time I've picked one up--never seen a white one with mini hums come up locally though, which is what I'd want.

Gibson should do one at around the $1000 price point--I think it'd be great for people like me that like SG's in theory but hate the way they hang & feel.

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

I wouldn't mind an Elitist MIJ version at all

These are so cheap (inexpensive) enough I might grab a few different colors

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

They are cheap, but very good quality and tone. Very playable, well finished fretwork. The fadeds are super cheap, but best quality I've seen come around for less than $1000, so you CAN afford to get several different colors and put different pups in for different sounds.

Re: NGD: Epi Wilshire Pro

One of my favorite guitars is Deniz Tek's '65 Crestwood Deluxe, it used to belong to Sonic Smith when he was in the MC5. I am thinking of grabbing one and doing a take on it. Won't be dead on, probably don't quite want it to be anyway but I love the SG Custom look of it and it's connection to Sonic. Big Radio Birdman fan too so it kind of ties it all together.

Probably need to start with a Worn Cherry model with mini hums, then paint in an Ivory White lacquer, beat the snot out of and it should be pretty close to this
