NGD...I have a woody..

Thanks! I'm loving it a lot myself :bigthumb:

That's the time-tested "cosmo" (black chrome) finish Ibanez has had on their guitar's since the 80's (my S540 Saber has it) but yes, it looks especially nice here.

I was in awe of them (JEM's) when I first saw them in ad's and 'zines, back in the 80's Firstly I loved Vai's Passion and Warfare (and him wi/ DLR/Whitesnake/ Alcatrazz)

...and secondly it was one the zaniest shred guitar's I'd ever seen. The swirls and Florals were'nt really my thing (I had 3 guitar's back then - all black :p)..but they were still awe-inspiring/facinating to gawk at as a teen :lmao:

This one's more befitting my current mature age :laugh2:

It's mind-blowing to play (and to gawk at :bigthumb:)

More shredding fun w/ it :D

Raised the action a hair. It feels more familair under the fingers now. It's still probably a bit lower than most of my other guitars. Tone seems about the same....maybe a tad fuller..

Thanks ,I suppose 'pretty' is about right :lmao:

It IS kinda ornamental :p:

But all the fluff apart...it's a player on the level of (and maybe even beyond) my Ibby Sabre's :bigthumb:

Since I raised the string height a hair, I had to re-adjust pup height...

Eh? Vid's don't seem to be working for me (hopefully this too shall pass)

These are fetching pretty high prices on Reverb (double and more than what I just paid for mine :p) which is pretty impressive for an Indo guitar.

I read on one listing (which sold yesterday) That the 2016 models are more well regarded for having 'superior woods' than later models (2017-18)..and mine's a 2016 according to the SL. No. I guess this refer's to the rosewood top that the earlier models had that they later changed to a Walnut top due to some problem with the availability of Rosewood.

Anyway staring at my top gives me a woody ('lil pun there :D) ...it's absolutely gorgeous. Looks kinda like the old rosewood coffee table I have in my living room :lmao:

And when I start playing it...things get even better :bigthumb:

Lol, bit of a coincidence...Vai just announced he'll be playing a gig in my hometown in early December

Ya, it's different . I like it though :bigthumb:

Just for some perspective. Melodic/neoclassical with my other fave new axe... Ibby S 09LTD (stock neck IBZ/Dimarzio pup)..

We'll go with ornamental, that sounds cooler. Always nice when you get a guitar that's set up right from the get-go. Even better when it's a used guitar.

Sounds great in the clips you posted. Didn't hear any buzzing from the super low-action.

Thanks! Yeah, I've been a bit lucky with that lately. It saved me some time and effort, which is always a cool thing in my book :laugh2:

The Ibby Sabre's I just bought used were all mostly set up pretty decently as well. I did have a few minor adjustments to make...but nothing OTT.

But this one played absolutely 100% perfect out of the box (it had even been set up for Eb) ...I only raised the action a bit 'cause of personal preference ..but that's all I did to it...

More perspective...

ie..the same thing w/ the Ibby S520BBS (Meranti/stock Quantum bridge pup ) I just bought...

And even more perspective.. (yet another neoclassical ballad w/ with SA's neck single coil). :bigthumb:

I love playing single coils in the neck, the whole raspy/buzzy/sweet/fat thing they have going on. Wish they did'nt sound so anemic in the bridge though...

This SA has really great sounding stock Quantum pup's and sounds/plays like Strat (apart from the okoume body/ebony fretboard, the specs are pretty similar) ...w/ the added benefits that come from it being a Sabre (insane nippiness hehe) .... really love the tone and playability

And speaking of single coils ...here's the most single-coil-like humbucker I've ever played...ticks all the boxes: Raspy, growly, grainy, buzzy, 3D, super-sensitive, fat, sweet, smooth, clear, articulate, singing.... For all intents an purposes it could actually be a single coil, and an awesome one at that Bigthumb:
