NGD! Pacifica 510V

I got a fantastic deal on this Yamaha Pacifica 510V that's basically brand new and got a hard case with it also. Got the guitar in yesterday and noticed that really all it needed was a set of new strings and to be cleaned up. I took the old strings off, oiled the fretboard, polished the frets, used some guitar polish on the body to get the grime off and put a fresh set of strings on it. The frets have no wear on them at all and it doesn't look like it was really played. I'll still need to take it to my guitar tech to get the nut filed properly.

What always gets me is most times when I buy these used guitars like this they come in all greasy and grimy from the previous owners when all they need to do is clean them up once in a while. Before polishing the frets you could run your finger along them and they felt gritty, but after polishing them it felt smooth as glass. I always wipe down my guitars and keep them clean. Usually once a year I oil the fretboards and lightly buff the frets to remove any grime or oxidation.

So far I really like the guitar. The P-Rail pickup is very versatile and as a humbucker seems to be pretty thick sounding, but not muddy. I'm still thinking seriously about having a neck pickup added at some point and changing out the 3-way switch for a 5 way super switch or something to take advantage of the P-Rail pickup.

Sorry for the bad pics. The color is Sonic Blue, but I can't seem to get a pic with a good representation of the actual color.

Wow! That is beautiful!

Thanks. It has the same neck thickness as my 611VFM which is a little thicker than a regular Pacifica, but not too thick IMO. I did satin up the gloss finish on the back of the neck because I don't like gloss finishes.

Awesome axe! [emoji1303]

Isn't that crazy? You'd think that at LEAST they'd clean 'em up just to make them look better for selling!

Congrats! [emoji2]

Lol... Right. I just don't understand people not taking care of their gear is all. I'm just picky I guess, but I always take good care of my gear. I rarely let anyone else play my guitars also. I'm just picky. Lol...

Re: NGD! Pacifica 510V

Maybe add a push-pull or mini toggle for series parallel?

+1

The parallel setting is, on my PRails guitar, far more useful than series. Well worth adding this mod, or a triple shot ring (though that would make your switch redundant.

I have a hard time deciding between the two myself. The parallel setting is a great quasi-PAF, but the Custom was my favorite pickup for years so I rather enjoy series too.

What a great guitar! The older I get, the more appreciation I have for a good Yamaha.

Series is a little hi-gain for my tastes and with my rig, that translates to a much stronger bass response, it's about bearable on the Bridge but Neck is just too much (they're in an ES335, which is naturally bass heavy) - so, I always find myself flipping from Series to the P90 (most of the time) or Parallel (when I want that vintage PAF feel).

I originally went for the PRails as a "P90 with benefits" so it's all good!

Re: NGD! Pacifica 510V

Yamaha makes a great, very underappreciated electric guitar at both ends of the line... they make the only starter pack I recommend for beginning students. That axe should serve you well.

Re: NGD! Pacifica 510V

Every Pacifica I've played has been great. And they are great guitars to mod, too (but you don't have to).

Re: NGD! Pacifica 510V

Congrats on your new guitar T-Bone-BBQ!! It's a nice looking guitar in my opinion!!
Pacificas are very underrated guitars!!
Have fun with it mate, but I am sure you will!! :fingersx:

Re: NGD! Pacifica 510V

I can say so far that the PRail in humbucker mode is thick and nasty sounding. Nasty in a good way as in pretty aggressive. So far I'm loving this guitar. Once the nut is filed better it'll help the action and tuning and I'm also getting a treble bleed kit put on. I put those on all my guitars. If it had the nut filed and the treble bleed put in I'd be using it this weekend at one of the gigs I'm playing. This is my 6th Pacifica (3 modded 112J's, 311H, 611VFM and the 510V) and they are all fantastic.

+1 on the neck P-Rails being too hot in series. I use my neck position P-Rail in parallel probably 80% of the time and pretty evenly divide the rest of the time.
