I got a fantastic deal on this Yamaha Pacifica 510V that's basically brand new and got a hard case with it also. Got the guitar in yesterday and noticed that really all it needed was a set of new strings and to be cleaned up. I took the old strings off, oiled the fretboard, polished the frets, used some guitar polish on the body to get the grime off and put a fresh set of strings on it. The frets have no wear on them at all and it doesn't look like it was really played. I'll still need to take it to my guitar tech to get the nut filed properly.
What always gets me is most times when I buy these used guitars like this they come in all greasy and grimy from the previous owners when all they need to do is clean them up once in a while. Before polishing the frets you could run your finger along them and they felt gritty, but after polishing them it felt smooth as glass. I always wipe down my guitars and keep them clean. Usually once a year I oil the fretboards and lightly buff the frets to remove any grime or oxidation.
So far I really like the guitar. The P-Rail pickup is very versatile and as a humbucker seems to be pretty thick sounding, but not muddy. I'm still thinking seriously about having a neck pickup added at some point and changing out the 3-way switch for a 5 way super switch or something to take advantage of the P-Rail pickup.
Sorry for the bad pics. The color is Sonic Blue, but I can't seem to get a pic with a good representation of the actual color.
