NGD! Pacifica 510V

Re: NGD! Pacifica 510V

Dammit, I've always been GASing for on of those '90s Pacificas with a Floyd, like the PAC721, PAC921 or PAC1221, and now you guys made it even worse!! :D
Those models are forever linked (in my mind at least) to Michael Lee Firkins, who's playing I really like.
Here's a vid with him back in the day rocking his Pacifica:

Re: NGD! Pacifica 510V

I used the 510V for the first time at a gig last weekend and it did fantastic. The single P-Rail in the bridge with the 3-way switch is much more versatile than you might think. Everything from sparkling clean to crunch to distortion and it performed great. Of course I was still a little leery of the tuning from the previous problems, but it held tune pretty good and I think will be fine. Overall a great guitar that'll be used a lot for sure with the band I used it with.

Re: NGD! Pacifica 510V

Awesome! I never tried the P-Rail in a one-pickup guitar. Nice to know it works well...I might actually consider one pickup guitars now.

Re: NGD! Pacifica 510V

Yeah, if I can get good tones from it imagine what a good guitar player could do. LOL!!

I'm still thinking I may have my guitar tech add a pickup to the neck...maybe a Duncan STK-S4B in the neck for a little more output then a S4N, but still a good Strat tone. I put a S4B in the neck on one of my Squier VM '51 guitars and it's great. I'll do all that later if I decide to tho.

Re: NGD! Pacifica 510V

T-Bone BBQ, thanks so much for this thread!

I have a PAC611HFM that I really dig!

I am really intrigued by the conversation regarding your P-rail. I have a Fender Telecaster Scorpion Esquire. It is a single pickup guitar, that was originally loaded with a Fender Atomic Humbucker. A previous owner swapped in a pair of Fender Lace Double Pickups, red and blue. I really don't like the way these play. They are very hard to control and require that I change almost all of my controls on my amp and pedals when I switch it in. Otherwise, the feedback is ridiculous.

So, I have a great application for a bridge P-Rail. My Telecaster has a three-way switch and a volume knob. My big question is how tricky will it be to use the three-way switch in conjunction with a triple-shot to allow for rail/P90/humbucker series/humbucker parallel switching?

Congrats on your Pacifica(s) and good job on trouble shooting your tuning issue.

The Triple Shot will allow all four of those options by itself, rendering the 3-way switch useless. However, you could easily use the 3-way as a kill switch/on/blower.

Personally, I'd wire up the pup selector for Rail/Series/P-90 and replace the volume pot with a push/pull for parallel. Then there'd be no need for the Triple Shot.

Thx so much - very elegant solution to get me what I want.

Re: NGD! Pacifica 510V

I'm getting an aged pearl pickguard made for this guitar and I'm still seriously considering having a neck pickup put in also. If I do it'll be something like a STK-S4B or an Area 61...something like that. Not a full sized neck humbucker.

Re: NGD! Pacifica 510V

Ohhhh the STK-S4B would be a great choice! I would certainly consider that- it is a favorite pickup of mine.

Re: NGD! Pacifica 510V

I've got one in the neck on one of my Squier VM '51 guitars and it has a good "strat"-ish tone, but a bit more output than a S4N which I like.

Oh man an aged pearl pickguard will be very beautiful in my opinion, it will make an already good looking guitar look even better! If the price wouldn't be too crazy to have the new pickguard rooted for a single coil at the neck spot, I'd completely go for it an put a neck single coil in T-bone. It will add even more versatility to your Pacifica, my guess is you won't regret it at all if you go ahead and add a single coil! Keep us posted what you decide will you? :bigthumb:

Re: NGD! Pacifica 510V

I'm thinking when I add the single coil (noiseless) I'll also change the pickup ring for the P-Rail to a triple shot if it'll fit in the same spot so I can have the P-Rail options and still have the regular 3-way switch.

Re: NGD! Pacifica 510V

I'm also thinking of having the neck single NOT be straight, but be angled. Not for sure which way I'd want it to be angled yet, but it's something I'm thinking about. I just like to be different. :)

That setup will be incredibly versatile!! Good thought about the Triple Shot, you could indeed keep the current 3-way selector that way too! Should be an ace setup if you ask me! :fing2:

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with being different! ;) If you should go for an angled single coil I would go for the "reversed" angle, as in opposite as your Strat bridge pickup is angled, meaning the low E side closer towards the bridge and the high E side closer to the neck spot, this should offer clearer more focussed bass strings and warmer sounding high strings, that's just my opinion though I am not an expert on pickup angles!

Re: NGD! Pacifica 510V

I think adding the single and the triple shot will be great and I also was thinking the same on the angle for the pickup. :)
