NGD Some will love it, some will hate it

Re: NGD Some will love it, some will hate it

I have wanted one of those since i saw a photo of one years ago. I have never even seen one but your description (Les Paulish SG/SG-ish Les Paul) sounds like perfection to me!

Re: NGD Some will love it, some will hate it

That is a freakin' awesome gift!

Aside from the thinner body and name on the headstock, the Custom Lite has very little in common with the M2. The Custom Lite is a high end axe (basically, a Custom with weight loss), the M2 is along the lines of a Melody Maker, i.e., entry level Gibson.

I think I've tried 2 Custom Lites in my life. My main impressions were much more comfort over a conventional Les Paul, and, yes, not the full range dominance of an LP, but more of an aggressive, mids-emphasized SG vibe. The Dean Deceiver would sort of be a cheaper version of this guitar. I would much prefer a Custom Lite over a Custom. What a cool axe - congrats!

My ESP EclipseII was very similar, killer guitar good luck with it

I'm in the love it camp... would love to see more pics. No binding on the back is a bonus for me, what is used for the fretboard?

Re: NGD Some will love it, some will hate it

I am so sorry it is the Custom Lite. The packing slip said LE and that carried over in my head. There is a belly cut on it. I play Pauls and an SG so I am fairly sure I will be happy with the tone, it has my favorite Gibson pickups in it. Like I said it was a present so....

Ah, cool. I've been curious about those for years. Never liked the three-knobs-and-a-switch arrangement they used to have. Really glad to see they've gone to the traditional four knobs. I like the look of that axe a lot.

Re: NGD Some will love it, some will hate it

I only have a couple of hours playing it, but I would say it is tonally a Les Paul. Maybe the maple top vs. all mahogany on the SG is leaning it more towards the LP end of the spectrum. I don't know and don't care. There is a very aggressive vibe to this guitar I think it is the body size. It is as if you are playing an SG, but it is really barking. Bottomline is, it sounds great and is fun to play.

sweet! Its awesome looking. I was wondering about the tone on these to see if they were true LP or what.. Cool that they are!!

It is Rosewood. I hope the feds don't kick down the door and drag me out like a United customer.

I love the Custom Lite. How is the weight?

I don't know the exact weight but it is a tad heavier than my SG, not much. I am thinking that might be the 50's neck vs. the 60's neck on the SG. It is still a lot lighter than my Traditional. FWIW I don't mind the weight of a Les Paul it doesn't bother me at all.

Re: NGD Some will love it, some will hate it

How abut the balance- is it neck heavy like an SG? That was my one big misgiving about these; my one SG never hangs quite perfectly for my taste...

Re: NGD Some will love it, some will hate it

The very FIRST thing that came to my mind was Mr. Randy Rhoads. Now all you need is a matching white Marshall halfstack!! :D

It is balanced very nicely. It doesn't sit quite like a Paul but I am not feeling any neck dive. I have been playing it mostly sitting, I will know better when I practice with it. First I have to reset it up with 9s.

I will have to suffer with the black Marshall half stack. I am all done buying gear for a while. However, everytime I say that I buy something. Feel free to throw this post in my face when I do.

Cool guitar!! Didn't know thy were building those again. One of the Guitars I most regret not buying back in the 1980's when i worked at a Gibson Showcase dealer was a Gold top Showcase Less Paul lite. It was one of he best sounding rad rock guitars I have ever picked up. Thin body belie cut that 1960 neck profile and those had factory EMG's. Not normally a EMG fan but in that guitar through a 100 Watt Marshall half stack we had on the floor it was just magical!!
Congrats man got to find one of those now to pick up and play. I want to see how it stacked up to the Showcase we had. I bought the U2 out of the Showcase series should have grabbed that little Paul lite!!
What I stupidly passed on was one of THESE guitars! Only made 200 of them.
This one has had the pickups swapped but is a nice example of one of these guitars all were Gold tops.

I played a bunch of Custom Lites and gassed hard for them back in the 90's. I really like the way they felt, and sounded. I think that thinner body pushed a mid spike up a bit away from the bass. They re just comfortable as hell and sound great. What pickups came in it? (Not that it matters...)

Obviously, I was wanting this one...

It came with the 490/498T set. Which you know me by now, I love those freaking pickups. That set is just right in my wheelhouse. No need to do a pickup swap. I just added strap locks tonight and tomorrow I will set it up for .09s. That is all that needs to be done to this guitar.

I get why the 490/498 is NOT loved by many, but it would be sort of like an A2 neck pickup (hybrid A@P/PG maybe?) and a C5. I get why people wouldn't like that range, but you could strum fat jazz to some metal leads with it.

And as mentioned, the thinner body is going to make it sound better than usual I'd think...

I played the crap out of her tonight then put her to rest with her sisters.

Those are sweet guitars I've looked at them on the AMS site a few times. A white lp custom has always been my dream guitar and I could live with that. Congrats
