Re: no longer a Bogner Fan

i have owned 2 bogners over the past year and a half. an uber and a shiva with el-34's. they both had their good points. but they were not anything special to me. i would like to try an xtc though. the shiva did have a good clean channel but i like my dr.z better for cleans. my biggest problem was no tech within a 2 hour drive from me wanted to even touch either one of them. i wanted to have the bias checked in the shiva but they would not even put it on the bench. i am not sure if i just caught bogner on bad days but out of the 6-7 times i tried to contact them i only got to talk to someone once and he answered one of my questions and hung up on me in the middle of my second one. i am not saying bogner is not helpful i just did not have a good experience with their customer service.

Re: no longer a Bogner Fan

Right?? I own a 5150 myself and thought that this is just crazy too, especially when he said the cleans on his 6505 sounded better to him than the Bogner!!

Remember sami, I was comparing it to an Uber that I still believe to be defective, and that I believe Bogner did not repair correctly. That was one of the main points in the OP. Things inside were melted, dude. Caps were fried, etc.

Elsewhere in the thread, I said certain Bogner cleans were hard to beat.

Illiteracy and/or poor reading comprehension is sad to see. :disappoin

To those who can afford the tithing of worshiping at the almighty Church of Bogner, well, I wish you continued success in your cult. I'm giving up because it is too much trouble and money. I did love my white chassis XTC though.

Re: no longer a Bogner Fan

What made you buy a Uberschall in the first place?!?!? Lol.

I disagree that VHT and Soldano's are over-rated and over-priced, but have to agree Peavey's are great value for money.

I wouldn't say Peavey > Bogner as a general rule cos I hate the JSX and XXX, but they are good amps and very reliable from what I hear and 5150 > Every Bogner amp barring the XTC in my opinion. Still, tone is an individual thing.

The Peavey cleans are crap though. Let's be honest. Every Bogner has better cleans including the Ubersag and especially the Shiva 6L6 which has great cleans!

@rivera

Didn't you once post in this forum saying you "hated" Bogners because they weren't "tight"? Or am I confusing you with a different newb who opiniates based on anything but actual experience and who plays a Marshall solid-state?

Everyone seems to be missing one of the huge points I made about a defective $2700 amp with melted parts inside that doesn't sound like it was repaired properly.

Yep that was me & I do hate Bogner's for metal because they aren't tight barring the XTC. That's not anything heretic.

Slamming the MG is fine, but what was your first amp- Mesa Mark I?........ Didn't think so.

Nope, people got it, but then you went into uber-rant about other companies like VHT and Soldano being "overpriced" and "overrated" and mentioned "Peavey Cleans" and "Good" in the same sentence so people lost respect for your original post.

So you've owned 1 amp? But you have all these opinions? Upon what are they based?

Re: no longer a Bogner Fan

Playing them in shops- not just for an hour or so either, i'm lucky that I know a few of the guys who work in various shops in and around London so I hang out there sometimes on weekends playing the good stuff! (I also have many friends who have great gear and I get to play their equipment).

I've actually owned 3 amps. the first was a 10w Kustom which I got with my Encore Les(s) Paul starter guitar- that unfortunately broke so I exchanged it for a BB Blaster amp. Then, my parents bought me a MG30dfx a few years back.

Well, to sum up, if my Uber returned from the hospital and sounded like I'm pretty sure it's supposed to sound, instead of the way it does sound, this thread wouldn't exist, I wouldn't be so disappointed, and I'd still be a Bogner fan. And if I had oodles of money, I'd own a UL, a CLX, a SLO, an XTC or 3, an Uber of each revision, a Fuchs or 2, etc. Then if one broke down, I wouldn't really sweat it. Til then, I'll stick with Peavey. Heck, I like Peaveys anyway.

But this experience has flipped my bit.

Re: no longer a Bogner Fan

I own a Shiva and I love it, but its a very different amp then the Ubershell. I'm basically a blues/blues/rock kind of player and the Shiva works well for me. The cleans are real sweet, but I don't think the gain on the Shiva would even come close to what most metal guys are looking for. For me.... its fine. ( I still like my Komet better though).

Re: no longer a Bogner Fan

@GearJoneser, who suggested I kiss his sack:

What do you think I should do, keep sending the amp to Hollywood? Seriously. Please don't just make a quip and show a funny picture. All ranting and humor aside.

Re: no longer a Bogner Fan

You know I'm just kiddin dude, but seriously...

If your amp really is a mess, I'd hope you bought it new and have a warranty. If not, I'd suggest having a discussion with Charlie, the manager at Bogner and finding out the cost of repair. I'm not sure I understood your first post completely. Are you saying they sent it back in non functional condition? Most likely a tube failure caused excessive current to fry components, which is very odd, since a fuse should have blown first. I wouldn't say that Bogner is more prone to problems than any other amp....but they are pretty complex circuits. Most of them hold up rather well.

For the record, I'm not too fond of Uberschalls, but only because they're too extreme sounding for me. I like the organic quality of their other amps more.

Also, when I met Reinhold, he was pretty firm about his belief that the new Alchemist has a high level of component quality.....only the location they're manufactured in is different. And there might be a few corners cut that aren't cut on his US models...mostly cosmetic things.

You sir have must not know of the Peavey Classic series. As for Bogner, I don't touch the stuff. Its not disrespect its just that I've never seen one in my area. Theres a lot of hype out there you've got to research extensively and then actually PLAY an amp. Thats the real important part ;)

Re: no longer a Bogner Fan

If ya want all that horsepower under the bonnet, your gonna have to pay the price.

Peavey Classic cleans are nuthing to cream your jeans over.

Re: no longer a Bogner Fan

Yet again, nope. It's just not true.

what? youre whole thread was saying just about that. Oh well...
If you tthink a Peavay is in the same class as an esoteric Bogner than dream on my deluded friend..dream on.

Re: no longer a Bogner Fan

The Uberkab has 2 Vin 30's and 2 G75T's, right? That's really a great combo for a 4-12 designed for rock/metal. I set both of my Jubillee cabs up that way, and they sound great. The straight cab is one of the best sounding cabs I've ever heard.
