Now I think I fried my Twin Tube..

Well, first I had the whooshing noise and now I think I've messed it up worse.

I brought a few pedals home to play and I accidently got my power supplies mixed up. I accidently hooked up my 1 Spot 9v power supply to the Twin Tube. It powered up but I didn't get any sound out of it. I then realized my mistake and put the correct adapter in it and now it won't power up at all.

This really sucks. I've already emailed SD to see what they say. Any chance I'll be able to just get a new replacement with all the problems I've had?

Re: Now I think I fried my Twin Tube..

Thanks. I was told that possibly I just fried the power supply and not the pedal. He couldn't confirm that though. I would think putting a lower voltage adapter on a pedal like this would kill the adapter instead of the pedal.

Edit: Nevermind. The 9v adapter I used still works. Tht would've been the supply that got fried. The Twintube and its own adapter will not work.

That's weird? The TTC power supply is 18w & 600mA. Plugging in a 9v power supply Shouldn't hurt it? In theory? It's certainly not going to power up. But I fail to understand how it would damage the circuit? I'll be sure to use cation with my TTC.:13:

Re: Now I think I fried my Twin Tube..

Mine says 16v and 560ma (the adapter itself says 600ma).. The 9v adapter powered up the TTC, but I didn't have any sound out of it. Put the 16v back in and no power. :smack:

Correction: Mine is 16V @600mA output. Your right.:) If you think of the TTC as a amp and not a stomp box. Could you have browned out the transformers? Meaning they didn't see the proper voltage they are designed to work on,But tried to work any way. Basically sucking the life out of them? IDUNNO? Just a Theory.

I thought about that, too. I suppose it's possible. Don't know.. One guy told me that using a lower voltage adapter should not hurt the pedal itself. If I did blow them would there be any noticable signs on the inside of the pedal?

In a Solid state device under powering should cause no damage. But the TTC IS a tube device. The Tubes run on 300+VDC. I'm thinking under powering it would be enough to light the tube filaments thus charging the tube plates. the plates are now looking for 300+VDC. It can't find it,SO? Does it just stop and forget about it? OR? Keep sucking the transformer dry? Hmmm. Jeff Seal been around lately? He would understand this stuff.

Re: Now I think I fried my Twin Tube..

People start amps under Variac's all the time. Go from 0 to 120v or 240v. I do not see why this should have hurt it.

I understand, But where talking Beefy Iron transformer in a amp while the TTC has a tiny torrid<sp> transformer?

Hopefully Duncan will fix it anyway as a reward for your honesty and refusal to be a sleazebag.
