NPD Way Huge Green Rhino

Re: NPD Way Huge Green Rhino

Joe, that reverse blueburst strat of yours still gives me a chubby. What model is she?

Re: NPD Way Huge Green Rhino

That is such a great board, man. Other than the addition of one or two little things that I'd use more than most people, I wouldn't change a thing about it.

And that's not even taking into account the rest of the gear in that room. It's gotta be one of the best rooms in existance.

Congrats on the new pedal, dude. Enjoy it. :beerchug:

I didn't think any of the GC's had it in stock yet. It doesn't even come up on GC's site. Maybe I'll check if my local one has one.

Re: NPD Way Huge Green Rhino

Has the Green Rhino slotted in where your Doubleback was Joe?

Yeah, I'm selling the Double Back to pay me back. It's a great compressor, but someone else needs it more than me.
PM me, if anyone's interested. New in box - $110 shipped.

I'm a fan of Fender's rarest colors, and pearl dust blue and silver are two of the rarest, but unfortunately they came on 90's Strat Plus metal nut necks. So I bought those Strat Plusses, and also 2001 & 2004 Am. Stds on Craigslist and Ebay. I swapped the bodies, then sold the Strat Plusses with Am Std. bodies. The pearl dust blue has Chubtone rev. staggered 69's, which are some of the greatest strat pickups I've heard. The pearl dust silver has C5/59 hybrid and a Hot Rails in an HS pickguard with volume and 3 way toggle.

Thanks. That pedal board is pretty much done. I like every pedal on it. The Deja Vu and Shape Shifter are my favorite SD pedals.

As for the gear room of doom, all I can say is I stayed unmarried till I was 38 and played in bands since I was 14. I've always done the trade up shuffle. You only live once.

Re: NPD Way Huge Green Rhino

Awesome review Gearjoneser.
I just looked it up and I'm impressed by this video:

Does it really sound like that? I like how it has that smooth, low-mid, tube screamer grunt to it. Sounds basically like a tube screamer with less noise and more bass to me.
I'm a sucker for overdrives too and I don't really need it as I have a modded TS-9 and SD-1 which are awesome but aren't true-bypass... Aw man... GAS! :scared:

Re: NPD Way Huge Green Rhino

It does have that thick and heavy sound, but that video only displays the tone with the gain on 10 with a clean amp.

It actually sounds best with an amp on the edge of breakup and all the pedal's knobs around noon, except for the 100Hz knob a little past noon. Overall, it's a pedal that melds nicely with the amp and guitar.

Re: NPD Way Huge Green Rhino

has anyone tried this on bass? i currently use a blues driver and i love the gnarly grit it provides, but it has a real problem with low frequency loss. i'm thinking the 100hz knob on the rhino might be what i need to keep it together.

Re: NPD Way Huge Green Rhino

Good vid and that is some sweet tone....but you guys are usin' single coils.

Re: NPD Way Huge Green Rhino

This pedal reminds me of a beefier Fulltone Fulldrive 2 in the first channel.
So, if you own a Fulldrive II pedal, buying this might be redundant.
It's like a Fulldrive II with a bass boost.

I agree with this...two weeks ago, I had a Fulldrive 2 Mosfet (not mine), the new Green Rhino (not mine), and a Wampler Hot Wired (mine) at the same time to play with. The Fulldrive 2 and the Green Rhino were in the same sonic territory (as was the Wampler Hot Wired), in that I could dial them in to sound very similar to each other.

They could sound very different from one another, as well...we could talk about nuances of the distorted sound, harmonic content, low end character, different functions, etc....cork-sniffing stuff...regardless, they could be dialed in to sound very similar.

I liked elements of all three, and would be happy with any of these pedals...if I could combine what I liked about all three, the perfect blend for me would be the distortion character and harmonic content of the Fulldrive 2 Mosfet, with the 100 Hz and curve knobs from the Green Rhino, and a real boost switch that works independently like the Wampler (the Fulldrive boost function is more of a "more gain" switch than a boost, and the effect needs to be on for it to work)...
