Okay Aceman, you wanted the Beast, you got the Beast!

King Midas to Cheap Guitars
So I'm sure you remembered this one:

that I made into a more comfortable to play guitar:

and then Aceman decided that I had lost my way because it wasn't enough of a change.

Okay. I picked up a few more of them. Since I didn't document everything with number 2, here's some pics of number 3 in progress:

Lifting back the bag reveals this:

The plastic bag helps the stripper work. I'm using a combination of heat, chemical, and sanding to get the finish off. Once I get the majority of the paint off the front, back, and as much of the sides, I'll get the rest of the paint with the spindle sander:

and do some reshaping.

Re: Okay Aceman, you wanted the Beast, you got the Beast!

After that, I remove the rest of the finish and sanding sealer with this:

The last one I did had so much sanding sealer and paint (on both sides) that the back electronics cover is now sticking out. I could probably put a .060 string next to it to show the difference. There was a good sized low spot on the front too, which was pretty disappointing. Don't those idiots have a good planer? I can't buy one big enough for these for less than $500, so the low spot stays.

Bought way too much stuff. :) Here's some stripper, stains, shellac, tru oil:

Here's the Dean neck that I'm going to use on #2:

I rounded off the headstock a little bit. That's walnut stain there, I'll be putting some Tru Oil on it today. Haven't decided whether or not I'm doing the back of the neck. Probably not.

Here's body number 2. Yes, it's ugly, but I'm not too worried about that. Installed a Dimarzio D-Activator in the bridge. I'm not using the original neck because those red inlays just won't match.

Walnut stain, and then tru oil on top. This time I not only rounded down the front horns, I rounded the back a bit to fit my leg better, as I end up playing this "V" style.

I'll have some pics of it assembled in a few days. Should be a nice guitar.

Okay, got it assembled. Looks awful, sounds awesome.

Should have done another coat or two of stain on the headstock, it came out a little lighter than planned.

I am not a big fan of Pointies, but I like it. How does plastic bag help? Does it help soak the stripper more?

Re: Okay Aceman, you wanted the Beast, you got the Beast!

Finished another one. Put a proper neck on it this time.

Dimarzio DP255 Steve Lukather Transition this time around. Not fond of the color, but that's what happens when you trade. :D

Re: Okay Aceman, you wanted the Beast, you got the Beast!

Agreed, no 3 looks WAY hotter, both the grain and the headstock, plus IMO the pickup, it makes it "pop".

I like it!

Re: Okay Aceman, you wanted the Beast, you got the Beast!

I'm down with the creme pickup. Black might match the headstock better, but it looks like a sweet guitar.

oh man - that thing SCREAMS classic 70's Rich !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:notworthy:

Re: Okay Aceman, you wanted the Beast, you got the Beast!

The color , the shape.. It doesn`t really fit the bill, but you can`t help but think "Turd on a Stick", even if it is in fact pretty nice :beerchug:

+1. I can't see a grown man playing a guitar like that in public, at least not in the live venues I go to. Maybe I'm getting old.
